Since the rosary for me is such a great tool, I use it for other prayers as well. Apart from the 'normal' rosary, I also say my 'loved ones litany' rosary. I pray the normal prayers, but instead of the mysteries, at each bead I recite the name of a loved one and sometimes a request for them.

Yes my priest said that you don't have to pray the mystery's you can just say the decade and meditate on the intention, which I think is also cool. I'm sure Our Lady burns with love for us no matter what we do as long as we pray her sweet rosary. Ah... isn't Love wonderful?

Old Testment Reflections thank to the Virtual Tour of the National Shrine.

For pictures of the mosiacs and the gloryious and sorrfull mystories

Annunication:
Old Testament Reflection: In the midst of a burning bush, an angel appeared to Moses, telling him of Israel's forthcoming redemption from slavery in Egypt (Ex 3:1-4). An angel also appeared to the Virgin Mary announcing the Savior who would give all redemption from sin.

Meditation: The angel Gabriel saluted our Blessed Lady, "Full of Grace," and declared to her the Incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Visitation:
Old Testament Reflection: Obededom welcomed the Ark of the Covenant into his home with joy and reverent awe (2 Samuel 6:9-11). In the same way, St. Elizabeth received Mary and the Child in her womb.

Meditation: The Virgin Mary, understanding from the angel that her relative, St. Elizabeth, had conceived a child in her advanced age went promptly into the mountains of Judea, to visit her, and care for her for three months.

Birth of Christ:
Old Testament Reflection: Isaiah prophesied the virgin birth of Emmanuel (Isaiah 7:14). Born in a cold and lowly stable, the divine infant King was the cause of angelic exultation.

Meditation: The Virgin Mary, brought forth our Redeemer, Jesus Christ, in poverty and simplicity, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inns at Bethlehem.

Presntation in the TEmple
Old Testament Reflection: Hannah presented her son to the temple priest, and dedicated him to the service of the Lord (1 Samuel 1:24-28). Joseph and Mary went to the temple to consecrate their Son to the Lord, according to the law.

Meditation: The Blessed Virgin, on the day of her purification, presented the child Jesus in the Temple where holy Simeon, giving thanks to God, received Him with great devotion into his arms.

Finding in the Temple
Old Testament Reflection:The young prophet Daniel amazed the elders of his time, when he cleverly proved the innocence of the falsely accused Susanna (Daniel 13:45-65). The Child Jesus conversed with the teachers in the temple, astounding them with wisdom beyond His years.

Meditation: The Blessed Virgin Mary, having lost her Son in Jerusalem, sought him for the space of three days, and at length found Him in the Temple, in the midst of the doctors, disputing with them, being then but 12 years old.

The Rosary is a personal devotion, not an official prayer of the Church. The two official prayer liturgies of the Church are the Mass and the Divine Office

Contrary to popular opinion the Divine Office outranks the rosary because the Divine office is a liturgy -- an offiical prayer of the Church.

By tradition (with a small "t"), not by official mandate of the Church, the rosary has come to us through the centuries.

Since the rosary is a personal devotion, we can pray it any 'ol way we want to, we can compose our own meditations and reflections, we can add decades if we wish, we can do anything we want to that is not sacrilege.

This is true of ALL personal devotions. It is only official liturgy, and blessings and such that are officially in the name of the Church and written in official books, that is regulated by the Church. The rest is merely a matter of custom and personal preference.

There are various chaplets... at this site you can find a few, I think including the Saint Michael one.

the prayers are right here where it is called the Rosary of Saint Michael and All angels, but if you are looking to buy the beads call it a chaplet.
