  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello,

In my community, arrangements have been made for a unity service on Martin Luther King Day to be held at noon at the Methodist Church. Ministers of all denominations will be coming from all over the community to participate and give this service together - including Father Norman, the priest at St. Joseph's. People of all denominations are invited to come and worship together.

Does anyone else have something similar going on in their community? Have you heard of something like this before? It sounds like it could potentially be a wonderful thing - but on the other hand, it seems as though it's also having Catholics admit that we are just another denomination among many, and not the True Church. But perhaps that's not the right attitude to have? What do you think?

I can't decide what my opinion is, though I think the potential for good is much greater than anything negative that might come out, and I do plan on attending.

We have ecumenical 'services' at various points throughout the year, this week there are 'sevices' to be held at different churches (non Catholic) and the priest has asked us as a congregation to 'show willing' and attend one or more if we can, so as to represent the parish....however, it's culmination on sunday evening is at our Parish.

God Bless.
