  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Ugh, I have this teacher who acts like it is a pain to have to help me. She acts like I should know what to do, that I am "stupid" because I don't know the information, and so on and so forth. This is one of my first junior classes in my major and it is pretty hard (her questions are) and I don't see why she acts this way for.

Wow. I can't believe that there are teachers like this. Have you ever had one like this? What did you do? Anything? :help:

um, you do realize that the professors aren't there to teach, right? that is unless they are lecturers and hired specifically for that reason. the main purpose of most universities is that of research. we produce knowledge and having to teach is sometimes a requirement if no one else can do it. sorry, but your teacher isn't unique and nor is it entirely unexpected. some profs love to teach and others do not; you just have one that probably doesn't.

Unfortunately Liver is right. I've had a handful of 100 level profs completely BS their way through the quarter by way of group discussions DAILY and quizes at LEAST 3 days a week and unheard of reading assignments. Complete flakes and wastes of time, space, and money.

But I do have to say that every teacher I've had for my Flight degree has been absolutly outstanding. They're hands down the very best teachers I've ever been around and inspire me every day I had class with them. They actually had FUN with teaching, even playing jokes on the other profs. It's such a shame no other profs are like that. :(

yeah, tell me about it. It really makes you wonder what those interviews were like, ya know? What did they do, just bring in their resume and check for a pulse? Not even to mention the ones who don't even speak english... or can't even writeit... I had one class it was like reading a transcript after talking with Yoda!!

i came to college to be educated but those profs that come here and don't want to teach are there to research because they are very knowledgeable and produce academic works. no one hires profs to teach or for their teaching ability unless it's specifically to lecture. it's not that big of a shocker. at least you know it now. better late than pregnant er, never.

Sadly, I think everyone who's been to college has dealt w/this. But there are those few profs who (1) enjoy teaching (2) can get the material across well and (3) welcome questions. When you find those, treat them like the gold they are - and be sure to take their classes and use them as an advisor, if they're willing.

Hang in there Starling, and try not to let the prof detract you from your ultimate goals.

Hang in there. If you know other people in your major or the class TA, you might want to ask them what they think about the things you're confused about. Actually, even if you don't know them, you might still want to talk to them; after all, you'll be taking classes and possibly doing projects with these people for the next two years, so you may as well start building friendships now. If everybody's confused, you could organize a study group or something like that.
