Thats true, there are a group of scholars who do not believe that it is even possible to commit the unpardonable sin because of the fact that Christ is not here physically doing miricles. We have to live on faith now and the Pharisees had the oppurtunity to have NO DOUBT that Jesus was who He claimed to be. We may still have doubts, but it was made obvious to the Pharisees. They may have very well knew who Jesus was, but to protect their position and their pride, they chose to deny that and tell other people He was the devil or in legue with the devil. They were purposly trying to lead people astray. In the same verses that Jesus pronounced the unpardonable sin, he also said that who is not with Him, scatters. I think He was pointing to the Pharisees, they were scattering the potential believers by their blasphemous statements. There must be something to that. Perhaps that is part of this sin. They denied the truth and scattered believers to "hurt" Christ. These scholars that say this, my pastor among them, may be onto something. The truth is, it is NOT mentioned after the death and ressurection of Christ. Some people try to say that the "sin onto death" mentioned in Hebrews is the same thing, but it is not. My pastor explained this as when a Christian purposly continues to live in sin, God may actually remove them from this world. He said that he knew a Christian man that persisted to live in sin and would not turn away from it. He embraced it. He believes that God removed him. He doesn't think he went to hell... once saved always saved, but he possibly sinned onto death.
I only mentioned this since some will say this is the unpardonable sin.
I said in an earlier post that I had found a site that explained that the Pharisess WANTED to live under the law of Moses and since the law of Moses said they had to be put to Death for blaspheming the Lord(the Holy Spirit is said to be the Hand of God in this website, they hadn't yet used the term, Holy Spirit in those times, but its still the same thing) People who blasphemed God would be put to death without a chance to repent. So when the Pharisees said this against Jesus in ignorance, it could be forgiven. When the Pharasies KNEW and yet still blasphemed the Hand Of God, they should have been put to death under their law of Moses. Notice the Pharisees didn't act suprised when Jesus pronounced this because it was something that they already knew. They knew that blaspheming God or his Hand, would result in death with not chance to give a sacrifice.
Guys and Gals, it just dosn't seem Biblical that the blood of Jesus wouldn't clense us from ALL sin like the Bible says. That would almost be an insult to the work of the cross---to say that it wasn't sufficiant. I don't truely believe in my heart(althought I do OFTEN STILL FEAR) that Jesus was saying his death wouldn't cover that. He hadn't yet died, this was all before the cross.
These are just some thoughts and information that I have received from others. This is what keeps me going on my BAD days. And I have many many bad days concerning this sin against the Holy Spirit. Some days I am convinced I did it and there is NO HOPE. So please please be there for me too. Thanks, Carrie
