You mean silly conspiracy theories became more prevalent. I'm not a kid myself.

Hm, there seemed to be some confusion as to what the "four elements" referred to. They describe different states of reality, not different states of the physical world. Earth, water, fire and air are symbols.

Here I can agree with you on this. The descriptions given in the six days of Genesis simotaneouly describe both this world's physical manifestations, and also the development of human beings through correspondent "states of reality." You are entirely correct in my opinion about this. Here is a chart that may be similar to what you mean. What do you mean exactly?

The Bible shows this progression in many ways. Even Noah's rainbow colors match the five physical human senses of touch, taste, smell, sound and sight. These correspondences are not just mere coincidences. There are too many of them to have been haphazardly achieved. The Genesis Creation Story shows and points out these patterns to those who whould look.

The bible doesn't tell us how many colours are in the rainbow, or name them. Your rainbow there mentions six colours, not five. If you want to go by the traditional colours of the rainbow, your purple 'earth' should be indigo and violet to give the seven colours Newton named. Of course there is really a infinite number of different colours in the spectrum. Newton picked seven because it was a mystical number, but the human eye can distinguish much more than that, including the proverbial forty shades of green, which is itself a gross underestimation if you have ever been shopping for paint.

Our traditional five senses of sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch are down to Aristotle, but he missed out on balance or equilibrioception, temperature thermoception, proprioception an awareness of where your body parts are, which is why you can touch you nose with your eyes closed, pain nociception, and a whole bunch of internal senses. Aristotle's five senses were picked up by medieval Jewish writers who attempted to harmonise it with the bible and and read mystical significance into it.

The bible does use numbers symbolically, but you need to remember that the human mind is also very good at picking out patterns and significance where none exist. As a wise man once said, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

There are so many examples of how the Genesis six days of creation match and correspond exactly with the six physical manifestations of this world. They creation days are "six" in number. This signifies the world with it's "six directions." (east, west, north, south, up, down)

When Noah looked at the rainbow he saw colors. When later men looked at the rainbow they tried to distinguish it's colors. The colors were the same when light shone through water/rain, and also through earth/crystal. But when light shone though crystal/earth the colors were upside down. People soon distinguished a pattern in the colors where they fit together into a color circle which alternated then as "primary color" and secondary color" alternitivaly. That is how they became seen as the six colors. It was not haphazard. It was made to be understood by thoughtful men. God provided human beings with a reasonable mental world to understand.

Interesting the way you work out your six by adding up and down. The thing is, if you wanted to come out with the mystical number four, all you had to do was stick with the four compass points. Which Christians have done in the past.
There are four gospels and only four, neither more nor less: four like the points of the compass, four like the chief directions of the wind. The Church, spread all over the world, has in the gospels four pillars and four winds blowing wherever people live.
Irenaeus, Against Heresies, 2nd century
Your six directions, is really just forward and back in our good old three dimensions, each pair of directions forming a single axis, which if you are looking for the number three proves the Trinity. Of course if you really wanted the number four you can drag in Einstein and say time is the fourth dimension and science has confirmed the bible yet again.

So why do people today think there are seven colours in a rainbow?

Don't confuse primary and secondary colours of modern colour theory with either the spectrum itself. None of the different primary colour schemes. whether red yellow and blue, magenta yellow and cyan, or red green and blue, can match the violet of the rainbow.

And the number of colours people say makes up a rainbow varies from culture to culture. Homer described the rainbow as purple. Aristotle said the rainbow was made up of three colours red green and purple. Xenophanes identified the three colours but they were crimson, yellow and blue. This was questioned by people like Seneca who claimed the number was indefinite, but Aristotle's three coloured rainbow was widely accepted in Medieval Europe and see as evidence for the Trinity. The Muslims meanwhile realised there were four colours red, yellow, green and blue representing the four elements. Chinese mythology said there were five, which is what Newton said at first too before claiming there were seven.

Noah would certainly have seen colours, but we have no idea how many colours he would have thought there were or if he would even have thought to try and identify them.

Well, that's interesting I see seven days of creation and indeed view the seventh as of most import.

The number "6" isn't what I thought out myself, it is the basis for ancient Babylonian time. All facets of time minuts, hours, weeks, degrees of a circle are set up with 6 as thier base.

And the number "7" is God's number. It is placed as the center of "12." The number "4" is placed as the center of "7." Understanding these numbers isn't very difficult. The Bible expects it of those who would understand it's message.
