I bought 4 shirts from a SA Thrift Store yesterday afternoon here in Lake Havasu, AZ and I tried to return them today for either a refund or exchange. No Deal! I was in the store at 3:45 in the afternoon yesterday and they had both of their fitting rooms closed, so I was not able to try them on before my purchase. No problem, right? Wrong! When I went back this morning to exchange them or for a refund I was told that their store policy wouldn't allow them to do so. I asked to see where it said that. I was directed to a sign hanging from the ceiling; a sign made from the cardboard back of a 8.5" x 11" notepad that not only had that piece of information on it but about 10 other things crammed into that space. It was so close to the ceiling that I had to literaly tip my head backwards to see it. There was nothing around the cash register, the check-out area or any other place in the store where this was stated; it is not even on their reciepts. My reciept was taken by the woman behind the counter, the wife of the manager of the store (a Major I think) and was not returned to me. After being told that I couldn't bring anything back for exchange or refund she very sweetly informed me that I COULD donate them back to the store... Are you kidding me?!!!
I'm fairly new to this area, and have been disabled for about 5 years now. I am on a fixed income that doesn't allow me to be foolish with my money and that's why I have shopped the SA Thift Stores almost exclusively for these past 5 years. The stores that I frequented in Orange County, CA area did not have this policy in place, a return or refund was something that they gladly did. No matter the outcome of this I will not do business with the SA again. It was not only frustrating it was embarrising as hell also.
