  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I watched this movie a few days ago and I personally think it's a good movie. Well there are some intimate scenes and homosexual characters..but minus that (ok, the crazy blonde character too, i don't like her), I like this movie a lot.

I love the movie setting, it's so beautiful...makes me want to go to Italy and learn Italian (since I have been interested in Spanish, somewhat similar). I like the story as well. As a woman, I can identify with the main character (Diana Lane) in different ways eventhough I have never married yet.

What do you think about this movie?

I really didn't like this movie. It used a cookie cutter chick flick to cover up and pass off a LOT of bad stuff as ok, such as an openly homosexual couple raising a child, having sex with a total stranger, and making rash, foolish decisions about your future. I don't want it to sound like I'm blaming you for anything, Lia, but your reaction is exactly the kind of reaction that Hollywood wants: "well, aside from all this really bad stuff, I really liked the warm fuzzies this movie gave me... so I'll open myself to this bad stuff to get the warm fuzzies." It makes me sad.

I watched it on a transatlantic flight to the US, I liked it, but I guess anything seems good while your trapped on a 767. It was full of cliches and utterly ridiculous, yet I found it enjoyable.

Thanks for your reminder, Pope. Not that I am trying to defend myself but I never said that I'm OK with all the bad stuff in movies. Nor do I agree with it, strongly. I did mentioned that those scenes bother me a lot but despite that...I liked the beautiful setting of Italy, the culture/different language and the way I can identify with the character in some situation in my life.

I understand where you are coming from but you don't know me personally and I am not trying to make you happy just because I like some inspiring points of a movie that's not so-christian. Thanks for your concern.

I haven't watched it yet, but I think I might...I do love chick flicks. :)

Hey, Lia, another one you should check out if you haven't already is Chocolat...I LOVED that movie. It's a chick flick, too, (set in France, though, not Italy) so snuggle up with a blankie and some hot chocolate...you'll be craving chocolate anyway after watching it. :)
