  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

More than anything, i wanna be a pastor. I am Protestant, but i don't adhere to any particular (sub)denomination (though i am NOT non-denominational). So, what do i do? I dont like denominations, and im not sure if i need one for college (do i?) What do i do? And even if i get outta college/ seminary, How will i preach w/o a basis for doctrine (of denominations)?
Ugh- No wonder Paul hated divisions in the church!!!

No you don't need one. There are non-denominational churches. I'm in Bible college now, with full intentions of pastoring a church but I'm a non-denominational christian.

The OP specifically said he isn't a non-denominationalist.

It depends on what college you go to. If you go to a college that is affiliated with a specific denomination, it would probably be best if you agree with that denomination. If you go to a non-denominational or inter-denominational college, then you may not need to choose a specific denomination for yourself. Most non-denominational and inter-denominational colleges will accept students from a variety of denominations. Some pastors do indeed get trained in non-denominational colleges and then become pastors in churches of a specific denomination. And some pastors do start out in one denomination and then move to another church in another town that might be a different denomination. There are a number of denominations that are similar enough in beliefs that it is possible.

What you should probably do, is learn about different doctrines and how they fit with different denominations. That way, you can at least eliminate the denominations that you know would not be a good fit for you at all. That will also eliminate the colleges affiliated with those particular denominations. Of the remaining ones, you might find one that fits best, or you may not. If you don't, then a non-denominational or inter-denominational college will probably be best for you.
