  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, some of you may remember I'd asked for prayers regarding a sum of money I owe. Have owed for years, actually, but couldn't pay it and am now trying to work things out with the corp I owe the money to. Previously they had been having trouble coming up with any paperwork, so I was hoping against hope (praying against prayer?) that they'd cut me some slack.

Um, no. They found the paperwork, added in allll the interest, about 10 different kinds of fees, and came up with a sum of... almost $50,000. :o

This is roughly 250% of what I actually owe, driven up by the fees. Soooo my attorney (I already have one, I figured when I approached them about paying that I should be armed LOL) is trying to work out a settlement... I have no idea if they will give me a break or not.

Working in my favor is that I COULD have declared bankruptcy a long time ago, and they never would've gotten paid anything, let alone interest and fees. So perhaps they will be willing to take what I owe them and no more. But still, it seems my prayer for mercy has been denied. :(

I don't mind having to pay what I owe, but also my family already got burned by these same people years ago, my mom had to pay them $10's of K's after my dad defaulted on a loan and then left her. They harassed my family for years (illegally) until finally faced with legal action. So I don't feel one bit bad for trying to lessen the blow.

OK, anyway, who knows how I will work this out. Please pray for my finances, since I have no idea how to do this esp. with my mom needed medical and dental work, my taxes having just gone up and no idea how much of a raise I'll get this year.

Also, I'd planned (before any of this happened) to FINALLY pledge 10% to my church, and I was truly looking fwd to it especially since it's such a hard time for all churches now. So far, I've been able to give a grand total of $200 this year, and I have no idea how to tithe *at all* once this new bill takes effect. Please pray that I somehow am able to help my church.

Dear goodgirl,

I remember your first prayer request and will certainly pray for you again, especially now that they are charging a huge sum of money. Hopefully your attorney will be able to get at least some of the interest and fees taken off.

A friend of my mom's has been going through terrible financial and family trials lately, had to declare bankruptcy, had her business driven into the ground, etc. They are going to foreclose on her house and she had to sleep on the floor of someone else's apartment. Well wouldn't you know, out of the blue comes a friend she hasn't seen in 20 years--and she gives this woman a bed so she doesn't have to sleep on the floor and helps her move her things out of her house (because the bank wants to take the house and everything in it). What a blessing for this poor woman who has been through so much.

God takes care of us--it may not always be the way we would have hoped or imagined, but he loves us and watches out for us no matter what happens. God bless you!

Also, I'm sure the church will understand your financial trial... don't worry about tithing right now.

Thanks everyone...
well, I did tithe Sunday.. a smaller amount LOL since the IRS made off with so much of my paycheck. But I did 10% of my take-home pay and did a budget that would leave me with, ready? $3! LOL

I figured as long as I *could* do it, I should... also, I was told by one of my credit card peoples that I could expect a $500 credit line increase, so I figured, if that comes in then I can use it if I have to.

Well today I got the notice that my credit line has increased by $1,500, not $500. That is exactly 10x the amount I tithed. I'm just sayin'!

So anyhow, at least if anything dire happens I have that. :pink:
