TV Evangelism, good or bad?

It seems like there have been a number of posts, recently, about specific TV preachers, such as Benny Hinn and Joyce Meyer and the legitimacy of their teaching and ministries. Overall, how does everyone feel about Television ministries? Are they helping or hurting the body of Christ?

I haven't watched very many, but the ones I saw kinda creep me out. I'm sure there are a few good ones, but most seem money hungry. I say they seem to be damaging.

Yet , if those people were preaching Christ in his area of influence , Paul was very territorial about that sort of thing at certain points .

Some I agree with and some I do not. I look at all ministries as apples. A bushel of apples may have one bad one it it; don't trash the whole bushel. Never take anyone's word for it, look for that worm in your apple yourself by comparing it with the Bible. On TV or the little church on the corner, there will be false teachers until Christ puts them under. I won't say which ones I approve of, but follow this passage.

Philip. 2:12
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

The only one you can really trust with your soul is God's Word, the Bible.

What bothers me is they tend to be flashy, charismatic and they don't appear to be accountable to anyone, live in $1M homes, and serve on their own board of directors. I'd respect them more if they were local pastors who travelled, like Charles Stanley and our pastor back in NC. They don't have exorbitant homes I'm sure. I know our pastor does not. I don't think radio preachers are equivalent to TV ones.

Actually, no. This wasn't to knock them all or put them all down. In fact, you had an opportunity to say something positive about any of them you happened to like. But instead, you took the route of deciding to put down my post. And frankly, some (Not all), deserve to be knocked.

I didn't get that from the original post.

I know there are probably a few good ones. I voted they haven't had much influence. How can they when the bad eggs ruin it for everyone else?

My dad is one...so if anyone doesnt like them please please be respectful because we are people just like you and it hurts when we are publicly torn apart. So far though this post has been pretty respectful so thanks.

Celine, this post wasn't meant to be a "let's all bash the TV preachers", party. It just concerns me, how so many get all bent out of shape, if TV evangelists/preachers are the least bit scrutinized. Being that you're father is one, I can see this being a sensitive topic for you. Please don't take it as an attack on all of them.

Oh i totally understand that you didnt mean it that way so dont worry about it but usually these posts ( not because of you) can get a bit nasty so I just wanted people to know so they dont end up hurting anyone.

But was Paul talking about those who preach false doctrine?

a Weirsbe (theologian) once said "While Christians are not to judge one another's motives or ministries, we are certainly expected to be honest about each other's conduct..." We need to be very careful to sit and judge what others are doing becasue God can use anyone to bring the word and the promise is it will not return void...now in regards to the way these people live and what they do unless we know their life and we have eyewitness accounts we can't point the finger and judge...so far through them some have come to know the Lord...so if that's a vehicle that is being used to preach the gospel so be it...now I know that there's so some who's doctrine we might not agree and if that's the case then instead of sitting and whining about it let's do something about it...
