  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When did you first put your little one over on their tummy..for some tummy time. I was reading in a parenting book that it was good to start at an early age..that waiting to long the baby may come to like being on their back more than the tummy..that not having enough tummy time can lead to temp. slowing their motor development. That kids today may be accomplishing milestones later due to parents putting children on their back to sleep now, which reduces sids...where as when I was a kid my mom was told to put me on my tummy...which made me use to being on my stomach... Well I have been letting lilly get some time in here and there..but, after reading this today..we went out and bought her one of those tummy time activity sets. When I put her on it..she just had this look like "why me?"...she lasted for about ten minutes and then went to crying..do you think seven weeks is too young for this, she holds her head up great by herself for short periods of time?..but I don't want to push her into anything she is not ready for...here's the pic of her experience ^_^

Yes it is much better to start earlier!! My SIL did not give her son tummy time when he was really young and since he hated tummy time he still has not learned to crawl. He is 12 1/2 months. I started tummy time within a week of being at home. I remember being amazed that the first time I put him on his tummy he lifted his head up and looked around (just for a second). I have heard time and time again that tummy time is important because they can't master skills they don't practice, and its best to start young before they don't like it. My son liked tummy time and was an early crawler. Just don't push Lilly, even if its just 5 minutes here or there several times a day that's great. It doesn't surprise me she got upset, she was probably just getting bored. There's not much she can really do yet, so shes saying "mommy rescue me! boooooring" ;) Of course my son didn't have any cool activity sets for it.... just some blankies, which he loved to taste, hehe... Good luck!

Christian has been doing tummy time since day oen, in the hospital. She is now crawling backwards, she is 5 months old. I feel the sooner you start it the better. Though she sleeps on her side, she has always put herself that way, doesn't like her back or front for sleeping, has to be the side.

I was told today that my daughter is getting a funny shaped head from being on her back too much and needs tummy time.

We have been doing tummy time, but not all that often because she doesn't like it and also because she's not our first child and we have a 3 yo that needs attention as well. So it's very difficult to do the tummy time thing all the time for us. Mind you I remember our 3 yo not having a whole heap of tummy time at 6 weeks either, and he's turned out just fine.

10 minutes is pretty good, sometimes babies get tired quicker on their tummy because they are working their muscles and it takes more energy to try and hold their head up than it does to just lie on their back. Maybe that is why she started crying. The fact that she did do the tummy time thing for 10 mins shows that she must have been comfortable with her new toy.

sammipher, your wee one is just so adorable!

Dalton was doing tummy time by week 3, and was also doing backwards crawling by 5 months. He's 7 1/2 months now and has finaly found his forward gears just the last two days.

His new favorite pass-time is chasing our cat, Zion. LOL

Thank you!...you little one is adorable as well...I love the pic with the cardinals outfit...that is just too cute.
I got a feeling that when she does get old enough to crawl and such..she will be after our cats as well..she already gets excited when she sees one of our cats meemoo...he loves to love on her and lay next to her when we are playing with her..when she sees him her little eyes light up and her arms and feet just start going everywhere..I have a feeling when she gets older he is going to be wearing lots of dresses:)

I'm with you on that boat. I have a four year old and an about-to-turn-three year old so it is hard to find time to devote solely to our eight week old without being interrupted and having to go check up on the others or fix a boo boo or clean up a spill etc...

I'm not a parent or an expert. My niece is 7 months old and the doctors told my brother and sister in law that she has a funny shaped head too. The back of her head is slightly flattened. She recently started sitting up on her own, so the doctors think her head might reshape itself b/c she's not always on her back. My niece hates being on her tummy though, we think she'll carry out our family tradition of none of the babies ever crawling. We all scooted around on our butts. :)
