• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I have many disorders, the biggest of which is Tourettes (Tourette Syndrom, or TS)

I noticed the large amount of members, and think many of them may also suffer from this disorder, so if you have ts, or no omeone who does, please post experiences and ways you found releif.

I know that certain things (stimulants, stress) aggrivate my TS, which I have had for as long as I can remember, and at times it is so bad that I lock myself in my room and scream, amidst my ticcing.

I noticed that if I am really stressed, and think I may start to tic, or have started to tic, breathing helps.
Concentrate on breathing. Breathe in through your nose slowly for five to ten seconds, hold it in for ten or fifteen seconds, and blow it out for fifteen to thirty seconds. (you are able to tolerate longer times the more you do it.)

Do this for at least five minutes. whatever you are doing, just concentrate on it. Or even just make time in the morning and breathe like this for ten or twenty minutes. I've noticed that it really calms me down, and reduces or even at times prevents my tics.

Just a suggestion from my experiences.
