  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have recently started taking an interest in Christianity because of my (amazing) boyfriend, he is a born again christian and wants me to believe as well. Growing up I have never had any education about religion, my mother is atheist, partially because religion was forced on her as a child and she never wanted to do that to me. Because of this I have found it very difficult to understand and believe in God, so many parts of it just seem so impossible to me. I want to believe, my boyfriend isn't pushing this on me, I've chosen to do this myself, and most of my recent education about religion has been through things I've read, but the in conversations we have had about God he has this undeniable unquestioning faith and I want that for myself but I have so many doubts that it makes it hard.
If anyone has any advice it would be most appreciated :)

She's not asking to become a creationist, your interpretation of Genesis has little to do with whether you're christian or not.

Honest advice, go to church with him, enjoy the community. You can't make yourself believe something, but given time in the right environment I'm sure it will grow on you.

I agree with this. My girlfriend had many doubts and had trouble leaving everything in her life to Christ, but I invited her to church, and she grew so much in her faith.

I think the best advice is go to church with him.

Pray and ask God to reveal Himself to you and be open to God talking to you in anyway.

Look at the world think about whether it was a random accident. The amazing complexity, that you can understand the world and its values and beauty and have a relationship with other people.... you are more than mere matter and a random accident. This isn't to say that the Big Bang and Evolution is wrong (I don't think they are) and to ask how unlikely it is that we exist that there is no reason for anything like us to exist if there is no God. Science= how, God= why.

If you want to ask about your doubts, ask here or pm me if you want. :D

I would say the same thing everybody else has been saying - pray and go to church with him. But I also wanted to say that I experienced something similar recently - I've been Christian for a bit under a year, and before that I went through a period where I wanted to believe but couldn't. I'd rather not post a whole lot about it here, because some of it is a bit personal, but if you want to talk about it at all, you're welcome to send me a message. :)

Hey Caroline,

Let me first start off by saying, I think its amazing that you are looking into becoming a Christian and letting God be a part of your life! Let me tell you, your life will change for the good in so many ways you'll loose count. When you let Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit into your life your outlook on life becomes so much better.
Now, those many doubts you see and have are normal. The doubts in our minds are to test our faith in Christ. We will always have those little doubts sometimes and only our faith can overcome that. As far as getting that faith, thats up to you. But there are things that might help you kick start that faith. Number one, i suggest you read your bible. There are so many stories and miracles inside that book i dont think anyone has counted them. By reading your bible your going to see the proof that God is very much real and Jesus did in fact die for us. Number 2 i'd go to church, even if you don't fully believe yet, go to church and listen to the pastor's lectures, our elders know so much more than us and listening to them tell us of their knowledge about Christ is a great way to get that faith of yours started. My last suggestion to you for kickstarting your faith; is to just ignore all doubts in your head, realize that there is no way you were created by "Luck" and be thankful that Jesus died for our sins. My last resort as to helping you start you faith is to ask you, honestly, do you believe in ghost, demons, and the supernatural? If you answered yes, where do you think those come from? The Devil, Satan. If those things are real, that means Satan is very much real, and if Satan is real, than God is ohh so many times realer!
Now, After you've got your faith, and you truly believe that God created earth, and Christ Died for you; start following the life style that god wants us to. If you read your bible or even google questions, you will find out how god tells us how to live a successful and great life. And here's the best part. When you let God take control of your life, I can promise you, your life will be so much better, even at times when it may seem like all is lost, God is not. He's always there to talk to and ask for anything. And don't expect Miracles everywhere either because that wouldn't be much of a test of our faith if that were so. And when it may seem like God isn't helping, keep your faith because he is doing what is best and later down the road things will always become better through him.
I hope this helps you get that faith your hoping for in Christ. Its unlike anything else in this world once you get it.

:prayer: Heavenly Father, please help Caroline find her faith in you and your son, and the Holy Spirit for she wants to add you into her life. Please show her the way and help her with all of her struggles.

The best way to learn a faith is teach it. Start by finding people who might be interested in learning about other faiths. For example, find a hindu or a buddhist or someone of another faith and teach them what you think you've learned about Christianity. You don't need to be an expert but someone who is willing to share with people who would be listen to you on your journey of discovery. Sometimes you learn from the most unusual of places. This is a outward sign of being Christian to others. People just liked being loved for who they are.

I will also light a candle for your journey of faith on my iPhone and will pass it on to our worldwide prayer groups. Join us with a prayer vigil on facebook. Light Me A Candle | Facebook
