Good afternoon all!
(Thread title a reference to "The Godfather....)
For a change in pace:
As I have written here, I have reconnected with my mother's side of the family. Last night I had a cousin spent the night here. She needed to catch an early flight out, and lives a couple of hours away in another city. I asked her where she would like to eat, she mentioned a restaurant that I have never heard of.
We went to this small neighborhood place. There was just a small sign on the outside, but the streets were full of cars. The place was packed! The customers were almost exclusively Italian, as were the staff.
She knew the owner, and he personally escorted us to our table, and sent us a bottle of wine and a basket of fresh warm bread. On her recommendation, I had the Veal Parmesan She had the Braciole, which is an Italian stuffed flank steak. There was an appetizer fried Ravioli with a dipping sauce, a crisp salad, a small dish of pasta and a choice of potato. I couldn't manage a dessert after all of this, but they packed us up a couple of cannoli to go.
When the check came, I grabbed id quickly and after seeing the total, told the waitress that I wanted to pay for both of us. It turned out that the check was for both of us, and it came to a little over $45.00.
WHo knew this place was even there? I had never heard it advertised. Evidently, they have developed a customer base through word of mouth and do just fine.
I don't know if I could eat like this often, but the food was magnificent!
