I have a lot of reading and praying to do regarding this topic but it is one that I wish to pursue.  Without a doubt trust is an issue with me and my ability to trust God in my life.  I have no problem believing in Him; but to coin a "Gerry" phrase, to have a deeper fellowship with Him, trust plays a key role.  This much I have gather in just a few verses .

For you greek word followers, the two words of trust taht seem to be dominate are these:

1.  Akouo (191)

2.  Peitho (3982)

I am working on definitions of these words , and I want to contrast them with the word faith.

For now, God has revealed to me

1.  The need to pursue my realtionship with Him

2.  To do this, I have to trust Him (ouch-thats hard), not just believe in Him.

i'll keep you all updated

Hmm....interesting...do keep us updated reeann. I was wondering also whether you could shed light on how you became a Christian too and what made you stay a Christian. Would love to hear it as i believe it could give me a glimpse of how to talk to non-christians about this.

Trust: elpizo - to confide in, with confidence

Faith: pistis - from pietho - be convinced with inward certainty

akouo by the way, means to give ear to

auswig, here is the verse I was getting that from, which "trust" word is being used here?

thanks for your help so i don't chase a rabbit :p

Eph 1:13 In [1722] whom [3739] ye [5210] also [2532] [trusted], after that ye heard [191] (5660) the word [3056] of truth [225], the gospel [2098] of your [5216] salvation [4991]: in [1722] whom [3739] also [2532] after that ye believed [4100] (5660), ye were sealed with [4972] (5681) that holy [40] Spirit [4151] of promise [1860],

Due to the vast "trust" words, I'm going to be using the new testament only and the word Peitho (3982), which means the following:
peitho {pi'-tho} (AV - persuade 22, trust 8, obey 7, have confidence 6, believe 3,
be confident 2, misc 7; 55)
1) persuade
a) to persuade, i.e. to induce one by words to believe
b) to make friends of, to win one's favour, gain one's good will, or to seek to win one, strive to please one
c) to tranquillise
d) to persuade unto i.e. move or induce one to persuasion to do something
2) be persuaded
a) to be persuaded, to suffer one's self to be persuaded; to be induced to believe: to have faith: in a thing

Which I believe is where God lead to me look. The question of trusting and obeying.

Personally i believe the trust comes first, after that, at least for me, the obey follows naturally.

Thank you all for your responses for I have gotten excited about reading again.

Trust: Everyone puts their trust into something. This passage really spoke to my heart tonight. I must be trusting something (probably myself, foolish girl). Its silly not trust God.

Galatians 1:10:
10Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.

Amen Reeann, and that verse must ALWAYS remain in the fore front of what we do. Our focus must be on Jesus and Him only and it is Jesus we MUST please and not men. Thanks for re-emphasizing that.
