President Donald Trump has called for Harvard University to lose a valuable tax break, hours after his administration announced it is freezing more than $2bn (£1.5bn) in federal funds for the elite institution.

The White House has demanded the oldest university in the US make changes to hiring, admissions and teaching practices which it says will help fight antisemitism on campus. [Harvard said 'No thanks.']

In a Tuesday morning post on social media, Trump threatened to go beyond withholding the federal funds and targeted Harvard tax-exempt status.

Later on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump wanted the university to apologise for what his administration says is continuing tolerance of antisemitism.

"[Trump] wants to see Harvard apologize, and Harvard should apologize," Leavitt said.

Currently, IIRC the university Endowment funds pay income tax of 1.4% on their investment earnings.
IIRC that 1.4% tax rate was imposed by Trump 45, with the Endowment funds previously being completely exempt from Income Tax.

So the letter may have been a mistake, but according to the Trump people, it was Harvard’s fault for going on a “victimhood campaign” instead of picking up the phone and making sure it was real.

Harvard has become a major source of the Woke Virus and is fast losing its reputation for academic objectivity. Trump, for all his faults, is a useful and long overdue corrective against this trend. Also, the institution has become too commercial.

Harvard is also a bastion of anti-Semitism and that needs to be rooted out:

Meanwhile, a more troubling development that is a direct result of Trump's policies is how foreign students are being rounded up and even arrested:

Supposing it is, doesn't Harvard have the right to freely hold such opinions?

Yes, so long as the alternatives can be argued without intimidation or the kind of academic shaming that ends careers. I would suggest that a balanced conversation is currently impossible in Harvard, which is why Trump is a necessary corrective on the institution. Currently, its biases are transparent and its objectivity questionable.

~~~ Ooooh the "woke mind virus" ~~~
(Do you not understand the nature of viruses? Emitting from central source is not how viruses propagate. The nonsense people get wound up about. SMH.)
Trump, for all his faults, is a useful and long overdue corrective against this trend. Also, the institution has become too commercial.
Too Commercial? Harvard has long been the bastian of wealth and power. A place to gain connections to networks of commercial giants and power brokers.
Harvard is also a bastion of anti-Semitism and that needs to be rooted out:
Straight from the Trump regime's propaganda operation against their political enemies. (And that's what Trump's "task force" is about -- punishing his enemies in the academy.)
Meanwhile, a more troubling development that is a direct result of Trump's policies is how foreign students are being rounded up and even arrested:
More despicable things Trump is doing to unversities and foreigners. It's like a Venn diagram of people Trump and his chief ghoul (S. Miller) hate the most.
Yes, so long as the alternatives can be argued without intimidation or the kind of academic shaming that ends careers.
Again, while that might seem just as antithetical to the purpose of a university as requiring faculty to adhere to young earth creationism [and not allow alternatives to be argued] it is just as valid an opinion for a university to hold without fear of government restraint on free speech.
which is why Trump is a necessary corrective on the institution.
No, government is a forbidden corrective on free speech and conscience.
I'm sure you be happy with evolution and atheism taught in all religious colledges and such then, wether they agree with it or not, after all only fair.
