Under the current definition things can literally be a mass shooting when a particular family is targeted or when the shooting is committed because of and in the course of a completely different crime. This is as opposed to the ones yesterday and today that were just literally random public shootings. So up the body count before it counts? Redefining it doesn't magically make the frequency of these types of shootings go away.
I did not say that the ones this weekend did not meet the definition. Only that the numbers are much larger than the should be based on the very broad current definition of four victims that were either injured or killed without taking into account the facts that surround the case. Such as was it in the course of another crime? Were particular PEOPLE not groups but people targeted. We don't know because we haven't taken any steps to reduce the occurrence.
The two shootings that happened this weekend both meet and exceed the current definition.
to apply to only random shootings like the ones this weekend ( as opposed to the current definition used by most sources which is a shooting with at least four injuries or deaths whether or not it was in the course of committing another crime or a case where a person killed a whole family.Changed to what?
Do those non-random as you say (though the ones you describe as random aren't really random though since they appear to be planned) not matter then?to apply to only random shootings like the ones this weekend ( as opposed to the current definition used by most sources which is a shooting with at least four injuries or deaths whether or not it was in the course of committing another crime or a case where a person killed a whole family.
Or, go ahead and flip it upside down.It should just stay there for the foreseeable future.
no not that they do not matter, but whether that the number of people that would be saved by tightening gun laws to "regulate" mass shootings ( because you are not going to stop them) are really fairly small.Do those non-random as you say (though the ones you describe as random aren't really random though since they appear to be planned) not matter then?
and I agree.
Let’s pay our due respects to the innocent people killed by a guy riled up over the “Mexican Invasion”
Where was the third? Other than that by most sources definition they happen every day.
I actually was not around to read or really hear about that shooting as I had no access to TV or computer from last Sunday afternoon to this Friday afternoon.Oh jeepers are you wanting to quibble that Gilroy wasn't a shooting massacre on account of how the shooter wasn't as "successful" as he went there armed to be and "only murdered 2 children & 1 young adult? Or has that already been put out of mind?
and I agree.
