  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Here is a question. Does the TLW commitment to sexual purity include abstinence from masturbation?

This is something that I think a lot of Christians struggle with, including myself. However, after doing some praying and discussions, I believe it does include abstinence from masturbation. The reason I believe this is because we are supposed to be pure in thought as well as in body. Masturbating does not lead to pure thoughts. I hope this helps!

Is this possible? I mean, as a guy, I can't seem to keep EVERY thought pure. Especially with all the skimpy outfits some girls are wearing these days!

I appreciate your opinions.

Well, True Love Waits doesn't mean God's going to zap you dead if you aren't perfect. If you believe masturbation is a problem, try to avoid impure thoughts as best as you can, but hey, we aren't perfect.

One thing they oughta mention with TLW though is that it can be a realllllllly long wait! :p

lel, signed TLW card in 1994 (I think, could've been 1993) and getting somewhat tired of it!

It is not possible to be perfect, however that doesn't mean you shouldn't try.

I would imagine that it includes masturbation. We're supposed to be trying to stay pure for God, ourselves and our future mates. I would believe that mean both physically and mentally pure. And regardless of the arguments it is hard to stay mentally pure if you're fueling the fires of masturbation.

Maybe I'm being too technical with this but I have a problem with the wordage of TLW. So, anyone who has made a mistake can't have true love? So the person who makes a mistakes meets a person who is pure and wish to marry but wouldn't that make it "not true love" for both of them? Like I said, I'm probably being too technical. I do agree with waiting until marriage, and that is Scriptural. I don't know that makes it true love. To me it looks more like obedience to God. (I'm not trying to start any arguments.)

Even when an impure thought pops into your head, you can still choose whether to dwell on that thought or not. You can choose whether to keep thinking more and more on that subject or to think about something else. There's a difference between having an unbidden thought momentarily pop into your head and consciously choosing to run with that thought.

In SOME instances, masturbation can ASSIST in maintaining abstinence. Especially now that a lot of studies are showing that most women can touch without any form of lustful thought entering their minds, and can just focus on feelings.

Unfortunately, most people don't believe this is true, and cause women in particular a lot of grief over it, accusing them of lying, deceiving themselves, etc etc. I've heard from many God-honouring women however that you CAN in fact, touch, and not have one SINGLE lustful thought enter your mind during the whole event, so I tend to believe it is possible.

First, on pure thoughts …I have heard the analogy that thoughts are like birds that pass over your head. You cant help but have birds fly over your head but you can sure not have them land on your head. And with sexual thought you will always have since we are sexual beings. But you can control the thoughts and not let them settle in your head. You got to steer your sexual drive!!!!

Second, Masturbation is amoral. Doing it by itself is not a sin IF you don’t have the any lustful thoughts. But that is very difficult. If you think you have this a gray area and don’t know if it’s a sin for you or not than take this into account.

Say you could either be a sparkling white angel/being or a gray angle/being in heaven (due to you doing gray areas activities on earth) which one would you prefer to be?

I think everyone would prefer to be a white angle and I think that is what you would choose as well. If you still think masturbation and anything else is a gray area in YOUR life then just don’t do it. Try to be as white as you can since God does not like lukewarmness.
