Trophy Wives Don't Exist

Here's an interesting article I found. This confirms what I learned in my Sociology of Families course a few years ago. People typically marry those who are in their sociological categories.

At the same time, there is another article on how more and more women are now marrying down.

Maybe the shift is happening where women will be marrying trophy husbands?

I'd imagine successful men who marry pretty women rarely think, "I will marry her as a trophy wife." That's probably the perception of other people who think she's better looking than he is and attribute the marriage to his wealth or success.

That latter article illustrates why it is foolish for there to be 'minority scholarships' and other programs for women funded by the government. There aren't more women than men. If they want minority scholarships based on gender, they should give them to men. If funding stopped, things might reach a natural equilibrium.

It could be that as women become more successful they'll start marrying trophy-husbands. Sure. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Although I'd suspect that they would start experiencing what men experienced as well. Get a really unattractive older guy marrying a hot little 20 year old minx - odds are she's got a cabana boy on the side. People don't TRULY settle for less than they think they deserve. I'd expect the guys would do the same when marrying some haggardly old money tree as well.

Well things aren't exactly at an equilibrium now and the inequality does not swing in the woman's favor, so stopping women's programs would advance women further.... ? Because reasons?

Women have lower pay on average because they work fewer hours, choose careers with less demand, almost never select jobs with hazard pay, and often prioritize parental responsibilities over career. It's not good or bad; it's just a trend that women happen to make these kinds of decisions in life versus men. There's no need to try to change it. I think women who do not fit this mold are perfectly capable of having the careers they want without special treatment. Why is there this assumption that the "inequity" is out of their control? And why would we feel the need to change these statistics?

The whole idea of marrying down or up is a bit silly to me. People tend to have ultra high expectations in finding a spouse. If people stopped having a unrealistic list of a million things their spouse must have/be, then they will see they are not marrying down but marrying realisticly.

Our fairy tale marriage culture makes marriage out to be perfect and without problems. And when all else fail out culture teaches just find someone else. So sad. As for marrying for love, its a great concept but alot don't marry for love. Some marry for sneaky reasons, others marry out of a false love. You have to love over time to see if your love is real or not.

Trophy wives exist just as trophy husbands do. There are people who admit it. Especially some of those who marry others from other countries.
