"logia" is Greek while "log" is English. The alphabet is not even the same. And God knew Swahili and Urdu were coming as well. I wonder what the "log" sound means in those languages.

Knowledge does grow, and it has always grown upon existing knowledge. So a tree is an excellent metaphor for illustrating it's living quality.

A great value of the story in Genesis is based upon what you have brought forth, by recognising that the tree of knowledge was already existing and growing without being a problem in the garden until the human took of it's fruit and ate of it. In the process of eating fruit, we see that the knowledge of good and evil became a source of sustenance and pleasure to them, whereas even though the tree existed as the knowledge of good and evil beforehand, their way of life was not dependent upon it.

They were originally free to eat of any tree in the garden without stress or worry. Their duties toward maintaining paradise were recreational - "tend the garden". They trusted that God had provided all their needs in the fruits and herbs, and if they should need to be revitalised, He had provided a tree for that too.

The consequences in Genesis 3 show that hard work and embitterment of the soul resulted, which comes by not having full trust in God's provision and being motivated by fear, a need to be in control of life, able to overcome any of it's challenges. (Proverbs 3:5-6).

In modern world we observe that humankind does use the produce of the knowledge of good and evil as it's means to ensure sustenance and pleasure .. where deceit is casually used for advantage and morality is of lesser importance than the business objective.

The knowledge gained by eating of the tree in the garden was specifically the knowledge of good and evil.

This specific knowledge meant that we were no longer dependant upon God for our knowledge of good and evil and so the fundamental relationship between Creator and the created was broken.

The meaning of the tree has nothing to do with other sorts of knowledge. Some knowledge of technology and the like, may indeed have been with held from men by God and then made available to us through forbidden means but the tree in the garden was not that means.

The more important tree in the garden however is commonly overlooked, and it is the Tree of Life, from which we are all able to eat again through Christ Jesus, and live.
