trance?

I've found my true self through listening to it. I've read that many ban it from there homes.. now I'd love to know why. I can understand banning rap for your kids to listen to, but even I, used to listen to hardcore gangster rap. I hung out with the wrong people, did the wrong things. I knew this wasnt me. I knew it all along. I followed that lifestyle for quite a while. Then I found electronic music...

Trance, Techno, Progressive, Psy (or Goa, as taken from from the founding place of the sub-genre, Goa, India), House, Gabber, Hardcore, IDM, Terrorcore, Happy Hardcore, Ambient, Chill, and tons more subgenres and genres. I mostly listen to Trance, Techno, Psy, and Progressive. Some genres of electronic music, even I, A non-religious person, would question. Although, after discovering electronic music, I completely ditched my so called "friends" I was with, I ditched the hiphop look, I ditched the music (gave the cds out to just anyone who wanted em). I found Trance...I was completely floored about my discovery! It was all the best emotions I can express crammed into a 10 minute or so tune. Trance and Techno are probably the most misjudged genres ever. Techno is a harder, rougher, dirtier sound. But it makes you dance like mad (if your into that sort of thing, of course) My life has started to unfold tremendously since I found this music. I cannot get enough of it . If you just listen to the amazing synth lines...the epicness of them. Im sure many of you dont know what Im exactly talking about. Try to find songs like:

Point is, This music has forever changed my life for the better. I've finally found my passion in life. I create trance and ambient music and I am also a DJ...[in training]

I went through my trance days, and I still go back to them here and there. Back in the tranceport and Essential mix days. I mostly listen to drum and bass now, but there is still definetly some good trance, along with progressive and ambient that I listen too. A little bit of hybrid never did anyone wrong, nor did some Chris Fortier. I will check out some of the songs you listed, and I will list some as well for you to try.

Techno, trance, jungle, love it all.

The reason that some ban it from their homes is because, for some odd reason, they seem to think there is some sort of spiritual meaning or being behind electronic music that is demonic. There is a word for these people... ignorant.

i used to like trance/dance/techno, but i have since moved on. Now im into death and black metal, classical, jazz, and blues

i see nothing wrong with the genre, i actually enjoy hearing a tune here and there. Its pretty relaxing but sometimes gets repetitive, but i guess anything can be repetitive if you think about it.

as for new-age music.
i used to go to a private school and they condemned it because they said it was satanic in the fact that its called 'trance' (they though in this 'trance' the devil could touch you soul)
but again, i see nothing wrong with it

well, theres the deal.

I get alot of flames for my musical tastes. I like the kind of bands poeple think are 'evil' such as In Flames (evil?) Arch Enemy, Dimmu Borgir, Children of Bodom, Opeth, Dissection, and such. And though, yes, some of my favorite bands talk against chrisitanity or go as far as to promote satan, but when you hear a guitar solo with orchestra neatly and clearly blended in to create an awsome sound, you can just pass it up because of what the band believes. Its like not watching Fox because the exectutives are idiots. Music is music to me, its not about the words in the music. As a matter of fact, a large reason i listen to metal is because i appreciate musical talent, and i often look up to many bassists (cause i play bass) in the metal category, more so jazz but were talking metal here.

Alot of metal is looked down upon because
1) the vocals (people seem to think its the devil speaking, who knows how he sounds)
2) the lyrics
more often than not, people dislike metal for those reasons, not for the sound of the music, but the 'message' involved. They seem to think metal bands are out there to corrupt people when most of the time they're your usual muscian, there to play music. And alot of times they will think that all metal bands have lyrics such as those from insane clown posse, (**** band, sing of killing people and such) when most do not. Even the ones that promote satan have very indirect messages in their lyrics, the lyrics sound like well thought of poems than rants about killing. As a matter of fact, quite a few metal bands will sing about things you'd never expect. Such as In Flames, Dragonforce and Rhapsody. In Flames sings about sci-fi stuff, while Dragonforce and Rhapsody sing about fantasy stories. But because of the vocals are passed off as evil.

So my point is. Though death metal does have some 'bad' messages, one has to be an idiot in order for such things to influence them. For me, it doesn't interfere with my beleifs, its just my musical preference and something to fulfill my desire to improve upon my skill as a musician. No more than that.

those are interesting thoughts, i cannot really say anything about the music until i hear it. can you give suggestions where i can hear trance music?

i makes me wonder though, why were the people who listened to that concert on drugs and weirded out? i believe music does affect people positively and negatively. to say that music doesnt have an effect would be like saying that money doesnt matter at all. we are only human but God gave us great minds to think intelligently and He gave us free will. there are many choices in this world but it can all be summed up to just two. does this choice glorify God or not?

we shouldnt judge others but we can choose. choose wisely and do not be deceived. for Satan is very good at deception and can appear as an angel of light. ask for God to lead you to discern what is good and bad in His eyes.

if you can help me find some songs i can listen to, it would help me understand more.

probably the same reason that people get intoxicated at any entertainment event. From rednecks at moster truck rallies, to kids at raves, putting controlled substances in your body (nicotine, alcohol, drugs) is just something that people from all walks of life have done since the dawn of humanity.

Getting drunk or high at a music concert is not doing Satans work. Enjoying Gods creations (God did create everything after all) is not giving in to Satan.
My advice to you is to not worry about it too much. If you beleive in Jesus and you love him, thats all you need for salvation. Christians insist this to me all the time. Youre not going to go to hell for listening to any kind of music you want to. And if you DID go to hell for something so trivial, then obviously God is just as evil as Satan.

A loving truly parent wouldnt want to damn their children for eternity no matter how bad that child was. So dont worry yourself about it. Just live your life while you still have it, or else you may find out that your life is over before you lived it.

i do not mean to offend and im glad you are not taking what i said in a bad way, i am interested in the music though...

would just like to note that it is not the fear of hell that motivates me to be careful in some things. God already took care of that. you see, He loves us so much that He had to let His son die to pay the penalty of our sins which is supposed to be eternal death (hell) coz He knows that there is no other way we can get there.

i believe God is both loving and just. He loves us very much but He wouldnt be a fair God if He just let man sin and get away with it, that wouldnt be a good kind of love.

this is the sad part, although Jesus died in our place so we can all have eternal life, not everyone believes and accepts that gift. God is real and it is our personal relationship with Him that matters, not how sinful we have been or what kind music we listen to.

listening to music is not a sin in itself, it is how it influences us. that is something i am careful with. God uses music and so does Satan. i simply choose to listen to music that bring me closer to God, anything else belongs to the other category.

i would really appreciate more info from you re: trance so i can make a decision on that matter. your last statement about God giving approval to it is very intriguing!

If you are looking for some free online stuff, you could try digitallyimported.com, it has a whole lot of 'radio' channels you can tune into, in a variety of formats.

I personally like trance, because it is a lot more emotional I feel than other types of electronica... it seems to deal with a lot more 'deep' issues than the usual sex-centred messages portrayed by a lot of artists these days (especially pop music ironically), which is always a good thing .

As for the drugs thing, as 2001MustangGT points out, many people do choose to take drugs, drink too much, act violently etc. This happens in all walks of society, so we can't really blame it on the music. Personally I find trance helps me when I'm in a down mood, and I feel it can bring me closer to God, even if the lyrics are not 'Christian'. After all, as you point out, it is how the music influences us. Good on you for being selective. If you feel that secular music turns you away from God, then yes, it is better avoided. I think the best thing to do is listen to it, and pray... if you feel that listening to this kind of music brings you negative thoughts etc, then keep away. If not, I think God will be happy that you can worship Him through appreciating music, which He created!

I just wanted to say that I think people like to victimize themselves in the sense that they exaggerate the heat they come under for listening to music labeled as satanic. Sure there are the few out there who think that different genres of music are satanic, but the majority of people don't think so. No one in this thread has claimed trance is satanic and in my experience at christianforums.com I don't know anyone who's made that claim.
And the introduction of rock and roll is far from that of trance so don't try to compare the two, thanks. Elvis played an instrument called the guitar, he did not push buttons on a computer to make his music.
Oh yeah what is all this enlightening that comes from listening to trance? If you mean good meditation music I guess I can understand. What has trance revealed to you?

You are right on the issue of Glory. All the Glory is God's and He cannot have any more, but many times we take credit for God's work.
True again, God did make all things. He even made poppy seeds. Next time I'm eating a poppy seed bagel, I'll remember to thank Him for creating them. How about heroin? Is that how you think God intended His poppyseeds to be enjoyed? I doubt it.
Finally I'd just like to say that no, God will not send you to Hell for the sole reason that you listened to a certain type of music and also that once saved, you won't have to worry about missing your life, because you will have eternal life!

Good point! God, if he does exist, created all things including music. Trance music, contrary to the fear mongerers, would bring you closer to God, because of its introspective, deep thinking, emotionally moving music. Trance can make you realizee alot of things aobut yourself and the world around you. About beauty in all things, about emotion, especially love and wonder, etc... And if God is real, and God is good, then obviously he wasnts you to touch on those concepts often

For all you theists, go do some prayer, then relax on your couch/bed, close your eyes, and play a trance CD. Listen to the music and let your spitiruality soar. You will see just how close to God you can get.

Well of course my friend. The types of people that claim "devils music" are not hte rational intelligent and modern types that you find urfing Chrsitian message boards. People here know better.

The point there is not about buttons or guitar strings. Its about a new idea, or a new style, or a new trend, that scares people used to traditional things. Thats all. So in that sense, i think its still relevant. It happens every generation, and someday you and I will be the old people acting suspicious to some new kind of music or fashion or activity.

All music is equally susceptible to substance abuse motivation. What I really eant to say was that one genre of music is no worse than the other in terms of substance abuse motivation. Classical music inspired all kinds of crazy activity in the old times, and absinthe and alchol were used quite frequently when music listening took place.

Jazz was blamed for the alcohol abuse in the twenties. Disco was blamed for cocaine use. Rock N Roll was blamed for pot and acid use etc... (in the sixties) it happens with every group and every generation. Its a rather typical pattern. Even in Indian tribes hundreds of years ago, they would eat paoti (sp?) to hallucinate while dancing to drum beats around a fire.. just another musical event.

Good points here. It looks like we agree; God has nothing against listening to this kind of music (or any kind). God may not like substance abuse, but he wont send you to hell for doing anything like that. So no need to worry. If you believe in god, and you love God, and Jesus, then youll be fine.
