Good question DJeX.

Essay, be warned:

There seems to be an aura of "evil" around trance I precieve among Christians, similar to strip clubs and *gasp* heaven forbid, tatoo parlors!!! :p (Seriously, I understand tatoo parlors tend to attract the ungodly but tatoos themselves aren't evil, and Jesus himself hung out in strip joints. Love the sinner, hate the sin.)

Trance, I think, connotates or suggests New Age spiritualism, an "opening of the mind" to higher enlightenment or somesuch. Indeed, a few songs I've run across do use this. For example, "Gamemaster" track of Paul Oakenfold's Tranceport CD has a bit of spoken monolog by a woman that says "Embracing the godess energy within yourselves, will bring all of you to a new understanding and valuing of life..." and so forth. Awesome track, but now as a Christian, that small section of lyrics is a tad offensive.

Another aspect of trance that may seem anti-Christian is the drug use that often happens when trance is played at clubs and raves. I've been to many clubs and one rave. Although I did notice drug usage, it was fairly inconspicuous and none were offered to (or pushed on) me. I have great, drug-free times there. I go for the music.

But to answer your question, DJeX:

What I've discovered is that "Christian" music is not a genre of music, for Christian music trancends genre (softrock, heavy metal, jazz, and in Andy Hunter's case, Techno). Christian music is not a musical genre, but a topical genre.

Additionally, topics are predominantly expressed via lyrics, not style. If a song is about a guy losing his girlfriend, losing his job, and his dog dying, you might call it folk or bluegrass. If a song doesn't have lyrics, how can you tell what the topic is? Can you name some Christian instrumentals? Unless the song is a remake of a known Christian song with the lyrics removed, or is an original instrumental song packaged with other Christian-lyricked songs, you can't tell!

Now take Techno. Techno is primarilly lyric-free. What then would make it inherently Christian?

[/END ESSAY]

:p Hope you enjoyed. Despite the above, I also would like to know of more Christian techno. Checkin' out Andy Hunter now.

Thanks, DJeX.

Perhaps if you make techno and house without words, but let God inspire you throughout the creative process, I suppose that could be considered Christian techno :)

:) thats exacly what I do. I've asked the Lord to come into my music and help me. And he has.

Greetings DJeX,
By the way, do you know of anyone who is interested in starting a Christian dance club around the NJ, NY USA area?
I have a list of several Christian pop, dance, techno, synthpop, electronica artists. I'm not sure if some of these artists play genre 'trance'. I'm not good in telling what style of music things are called.
 I'm basically into what is dancable: Disctronica, Ultrabeat, Dance House Children, Joy Electric, Liquid Fiction, Cloud2Ground, Dance In Motion, Revurb, Glory Grooves, Avalon 02 Remix, LP-T (Michael Farrington), Rubicon7, Children Of The Inquisition, Leiahdorus, Jump5 Remixes, Stacie Orrico Remixes, Circle Of Dust, Hypersonic, Andy Hunter, NitroPraise, Deitiphobia, Moby (only one of his old albums), Raving Loonatics, Plumb Remixes on the song 'Cut', & World Wide Message Tribe. Checkout the Club Worship website in PA, USA. It'll give you resources to download Christian electronica.

Hey guys!

Well I was searching around on google for some christian trance and i came across this forum!

I am life-time electronic music fan, I grew up on it and had it around me my whole life so I would say I know the genre and its subgenres pretty well.

I am into trance music, very much so. May be too much at times, lol, but I am practicing setting time aside for things, for example spending time wih God.

To answer the original post's question, there are several christian trance artists out there! I am somewhat a picky person when it comes to music quality/compostion/structure, so here's my opinion on "secular" trance vs. christian trance.
First of all, there is barely any quality christian trance out there. I guess this might be different in other people's eyes because what I might not consider a "quality" track, someone else might! I believe that trance is a beautiful genre! More so the melodic side of it, which is my favorite. It can only put me in a good mood, and while listening to it, positive things are running through my mind. At times it calms me down, gets me in a better mood, and inspires me to no end. It really makes me think how AMAZING and wonderful God is when I listen to some beautiful melodic trance, and look at all the things God created. I mean nature is beautiful, and I am amazed by it every day. How mighty is our God?! WOW! He is one creative person, let me tell you that
So it's hard to distinguish between trance and christian trance. This is the case with non-vocal tracks only by the way. Trance is dominated by non-vocal tracks, but that's not to say there aren't lots of vocal tracks out there.
In a vocal track it's easier to see if it's christian or not, so I know if some lyrics don't have a positive effect on me then i try not to listen to it.
But in an instrumental track I just enjoy the atmosphere of it! It's such a beautiful genre, it amazes me on a daily bases. The colrfulness of it, the detailed ides, the melody, the prophetic instruments, etc. it truly is a genre people need to be more open to.

But when an averge person hears trance, they INSTANTLY think, "oh it's that techno music" and then they associate it with drug use, etc. I'd have to say it's pretty ridicolous that they stereotype electronic music this way. If you think about a LOT of people are doing drugs in clubs. NOT just electronic music listeners, but rap for instance. What is "thizzing"? Doing, E i believe. So that's just my 2 cents on the drug use being linked straight to electronic music. i can understand that at raves theres lots of drugs around, but unfortunately the drugs have spread to other places as well, and it's no biggie for someone to be using drugs these days. :sigh:
Since i am so involved with this music, I have many producer/dj friends who i know do drugs and all i can do is keep praying that one day they'll be touched by God and turn their lives around.

I want to get to the answer part, lol, i didn't plan on writing such a long first post, but I feel like i need to throw these things out there.

So, that being said, I listen to all kinds of trance from a massive amount of artists. I am extremely glad when I find christian trance because it's rare! But that doesn;t stop me from listening to this music you know. It shouldn't. Just like someone earlier posted that you can't tell if some instrumets are christian or not, so if a track is only instrumental, then it should be ok.

Even though that's the case, I believe that not every track is ok to listen to though in trance. But this goes for the spiritual world. It boils down to the person behind the music, who makes the track. The state of mind they are in, and the inspiration they used to make the track. I know an artist who is extremely talented, he is signed to one of the UK's best label, and he makes amazing music. However, since I know and talk to him over the net, I know what state he was in [drunk] when he made a certain track, and the spiritual world behind this track only has a negative effect on people. So i try not to listen to things that i know weren't created in a positive environment.

Remember that the purpose of all things is to glorify the name of God! In all we do we need to bring glory to the name of God!

To sum up my opinion, I'd say any trance that has a positive effect on you, that makes you think in a positive way, if it inspires you to do good things, if it puts you in a better mood, then there shouldn't be any problems with it.

FINALLY, here's some "quality" christian trance tracks, that enjoy:

Corderoy - Deeper (Vocal Mix) [Deep Blue Records]
-This is an absolutely beautiful track, the vocals are truly amazing, I'd say my favorite christian track of all time.
Purchase here: corderoy.co.uk/shop/?lan=en
You can also check out their other stuff on the above link.

Nicol Sponberg - Resurrection (Gabriel Dresden Mix)
-You can find this on itunes.
Noel Sanger feat. Dauby - My Prayer [MPFS Records]
-Not sure where you can get this digitally, however, vinyls are out.

Ex-cito - God of Wonders
-Visit beatport.com and search for Ex-Cito.

Ex-Cito feat. Ella De Stigter - Risen One
-Same as above.

Andy Hunter - Amazing
-itunes has to have this.

Michael W. Smith - Let it Rain [Tresice Remix]
-This was never officially released, however, you can email the artist at gerwinkoudijs.com/Contact.aspx and you can ask him for it. I recommend that you do, it's an awesome track.

Michael W. Smith - All I Want (Tresice Remix)
-Same as above

Hi, I love Trance music and have been searching the internet for great trance artists. The ones I have found to be best are: Trecise, Ultrabeat, Coretex, Ex-cito, DJ Phase and Prophetica, good Christian compilations include: Osmotic series, Demulcent Session and Eclecticca series, also good for Christian dance music are Dance in Motion and DBA. Hope that helps. To find out where to buy albums from above, do Google search under Osmotic and Demulcent. God bless, Mick.

I appreciate all the artists mentioned by RaverWong. Will be checking them out.

Regarding Buhos' comment, how surreptitious of you, to undermine people's child-like openness to finding Christ in music, by re-seeding the same ol' "evil" rhetoric that's been projected by pious Christians toward and about any new music that touches the primal urges in people, since the middle of the last millennium. As a Christian musician, greatly blessed in that area, I bring new music into the Church, new music that bridges the perennial consciousness of the Body of Christ with the colloquial consciousness of the present times. While I identified with this as part of my ministry in my late teens, I don't even go there now - due to the residual pain I experienced from being blackballed by the church for doing so.

I was all gung-ho for creating Christ-centered and Christ affirming... music for the Body, had a prominent place in the music ministry of a mega-church, performed in that church with several national Christian artists and then decided to assert the music that the Holy Spirit was seeding, germinating and sprouting through me. It was fresh, easily dancable and deeply, primally passionate, AND it was Spirit-FILLED. But, people could feel the Spirit because of the negativity they held about the colloquial style(s). I was attacked by persons in the church with Buho's attitude, sidelined in the ministry, cast negative sidelong glances as a norm, accused of having backslided -- just because people could dance to my music and really feel like gettin' a groove on. I was effectively exiled. It was such a deeply impressive experience that I left the church as a whole and have continued my walk alone since. (I've tried to create new Christian music since then and cannot get beyond simply composing; arranging, producing, performing, I can't because there's still too much pain from that experience that is like a mountain range of Mt. Everest's in my way. Faith can move mountains, but with that kind of attitude in the Church, my faith withers because the probability of revisiting that pain again looms so large before me,)

It's been decades since that experience of mine and people like Buho are still putting out the same, negative jargon. Jesus Christ is Lord of All. As I've walked alone, I have seen the Body use new colloquial music forms to not only glorify God and Christ, but to also bridge the Church's consciousness with the contemporary, colloquial consciousness in way that illuminates and extend John 3:16 to the world. Everything must submit and kneel to the name of Jesus. If the genre is trance, and Christ is the focus of that music, that music is His and the Holy Spirit effectively ministers to all who have ears to hear the Spirit thereby. THAT's the truth of it! Christians who are against music styles that are predominantly enjoyed by the secular world, please stop acting like you have some special kind of insight that indicates wrongfulness in such music when the Holy Spirit is not doing the same; you make it a point to speak with a tone of pious depth and integrity, but you're only spreading the darkness of fear and creating a ripple effect that can spoil and effectively kill that which God uses to establish His Life in the hearts of many, within and without the Church.

Hey guys I'm new here and I actually just joined when I saw this post while searching Christian Trance Djs on google. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Godsdjs seeing as how we are the fastest growing Christian electronic dance music site on the web. On the main page you'll find a database style listing of Christian djs, producers, and promoters who have a heart for the Lord and who love dance music. Also, our forum, which has only been online for 3 months already has over 100 members and is averaging 2,000 unique visitors a week is a great place to meet and interact with others who love christian dance music. Also, we have a free streaming media mix player and mp3 downloader available on the forum to all members. You guys should really check it out...the Lord is really blessing us bigtime and our site is growing extremely fast! The forum is found at godsdjs . com / forum (sorry for the spaces in the link but it wouldnt let me post it without them)

let me know if you have any questions about us or the music we make!

God Bless
