  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi everybody!

Who are your favorite SDA writers, theologicans and/or preachers?

Yours in Christ,
Dave

While there are many that I respect and appreciate, I do have to say that Leo Schreven is my absolute favorite. He brought me back to Christ, so that is more than likely why I have the soft spot for him, but he really IS a fantastic speaker...one who enthralls and keeps you that way throughout his sermons or seminars.

I also enjoy Doug Bachelor.

I am just beginning to delve into Samuel Bacchiochi (spelling?), but have to admit that he is still over my head in some areas...lol

Of course, my all time favorite writer is Ellen G. White.

I decided to include ministries, preachers and writers. Let me know if there are some to add, and give me a link!

3ABN, a supportive television and radio ministry
www.3abn.org

Adventist Affirm, a journal for conservative SDA's .
http://adventistsaffirm.org/article.php?id=3

Adventist Review/Adventist World. The flagship journal for the church, for news and other. Mostly ...er..other. I am not saying I don't like it, but I haven't seen anyone converted from reading it lately. In the old days it was the "Advent Review and Sabbath Herald." And before that James White has separate Advent Review and Sabbath Herald publications, one that reviewed preaching of the Millerite movement, and one that proclaimed the new Sabbath truth.
http://www.adventistreview.org/

Amazing Facts - a huge number of online articles/books, etc. and media answers to questions. Plus lots of things to order. Amazing Facts is both a resource center and a source for evangelists. Doug Bachelor is the coordinator, and probably one of the more sought after preachers in the denomination. And Joe Crews came before him, also a sought after speaker.
www.amazingfacts.org

Biblical Research Institute, the official think tank of the denomination which addresses doctrinal issues, etc.
http://www.adventistbiblicalresearch.org/

Dwight Nelson, inlcuded his site for "the Evidence" program and his church
http://www.pmchurch.org/
http://www.theevidence.org/dwight.php

Ellen White Estate
http://www.whiteestate.org/

Hope international, publishers of Our Firm Foundation. They are an OFFSHOOT group, but hey, a lot of conservative Adventists read them. Adventist Affirm kind of filled the void when this group became "non-supportive"
http://www.hopeint.org/htdocs/index.php

It Is Written -Television and traditional evangelism. Getting into a lot of graphics resources too. Mark Finley, and before him George Vandeman, two of the better known preachers used to be the speaker director, now Shawn Boonstra is heading it up.
http://www.itiswritten.org/

John Carter's ministry home page.
http://www.cartereport.org/

Jose Roja's biography. Send a better link if you got it
http://www.joserojas.com/article/view/14

Kenneth Cox's biography. If anyone has a better link, let me know.
http://www.wordsight.org/net2000/meet-kenneth.html

Leo Schreven's all power seminar
http://www.allpowerseminar.com/

Lyle Albrecht, sort of a site...not sure really!
http://www.m1productions.com/m1productions_003.htm

Ministry Magazine. My favorite SDA publication, though many have perhaps never heard of it . It is published for SDA and other ministers as a Journal for Clergy. It has some practical and theological articles, and in my opinion has some higher standards than The Review or Signs of the Times. This has the archives since 1928, up through last year.
http://www.adventistarchives.org/documents.asp?CatID=32&SortBy=1&ShowDateOrder=True

Morris Venden sermons:
http://www.tagnet.org/lagroradio/sermonv.htm

Origins Magazine, 20 years worth of archives from Origins, a GREAT read for those interested in issues dealing with questions of evolution, creation, etc. From the Georesearch institute. Boring web site layout though! These guys are all business!
http://www.grisda.org/origins/ndx-yr.htm

Quiet Hour, television, radio and more
http://www.thequiethour.org/

Richard O'Fill, a revivalist
http://www.revivalsermons.org/

Sabbath School Net (yeah the gc has their own version now, but I like this one better )
http://www.ssnet.org/

Samuel Bacchiocci's Website. has his end time issue newsletters archived. A veritable wealth of information (and a lot of ADVERTISEMENTS for his books! )
http://www.biblicalperspectives.com/

Samuel Koranteng-Pipim doesn't seem to have a website, but here is an online copy of his book on scriptural authority in the women's ordination debate
http://www.greatcontroversy.org/books/ss/sscontents.html

Signs of the Times. This is ...sort of some archives. They only go back a little ways. Signs of the times is the premier message magazine in the church for sharing our doctrine.
http://www.signstimes.com/past.php

This is not a preacher as such, but has a TON of answers to biblical questions, so thought I would put it.
www.Bibleinfo.com

Tony Mavrokos' Revival Times Ministries ---warning! officially UGLY site!--
http://www.rtm.org/

Voice of Prophecy - runs the oldest continuous correspondence Bible course in the nation, as well as one of the pioneering programs in radio evangelism. Lonnie Melashenko is the director/speaker. Many will remember H.M.S. Richards (no, not a boat, a preacher!), and his son H.M.S. Richards Junior who headed up the program. Sr. was the preeminent preacher of his day.

Anyone know Lyle Albrecht from 3ABN. He is on there right now. I would add him to the lists already given..

There is a retired minister down here who is as good as any of them. India, Russia, China, he has been everywhere. His name is Pr David Lamb. We had him as our minister for 5 years and every second Sabbath we had a wonderful sermon as he had two churches to look after. When he retired he went from looking after two to be given three. Amazing man of God.

Another I would add to the list would be Dr Jo Ann Davdison. She came to the recent South Queensland Camp and took the mid morning meetings in the big tent. She was able to hold her audience over the week and in fact it built up each day. There were nearly as many there in the morning as there were at night time.

I extimate about 1,000 there for her meetings as the tent held 3,000 and it would have been 1/3 full.

Tall, thanks so much for all those links! What a great thing you've done to give us a place to go for resources! I've heard bibleinfo.com mentioned a few times on 3abn but I keep forgetting to go check it out. I definitely will now!

Also Tall, would it be okay if I start a thread called "Ask a Pastor"? I'd like to have a discussion about the Biblical feasts (without debate....ahhhh how refreshing that would be...lol)! Sassy, Honor, and myself get hit with "WHY AREN'T YOU KEEPING THE FEASTS?!!!" almost on a daily basis and it would be nice to have a thread that tells WHY and discusses them. You game for that? I don't want your fellowship time to turn into what feels like a "job", lol, but it really would be nice to have some more insight into this subject (and like I said, without debate...woohoooo)! Just let me know, okay?

God bless,
~Lainie

I would be more than willing to address the issue. It may be a bit though, because I am committed to a post on the General Theology board identifying and discussing the beast power of revelation. That should keep me busy for ...a while! Moreover I am about to start a series of evangelistic meetings, and have to visit 50 people this week to invite them! We have members inviting too, but these particular ones are interests that kind of fall to me.

But I will try to address it. Note though please, I appreciate that you want my opinion, but multiple opinions IN THE RIGHT WAY are not bad. The goal is to get at the truth.

So post it in this board, and then we can discuss it.

Will do! It might be a bit for me too, I have a thousand things going on right now myself...except today. Ahhhh, I can finally rest! :) I have really been enjoying reading the Bible today, being deep in prayer on several occasions, and the wonderful joy of being close to God. Pray without ceasing.

I've been reading Galatians and Romans and I feel both books are talking extensively about the ceremonial laws and not being "under them" anymore. I know some really great people that do keep the feasts, so if nothing else I'd really like to know how to talk to them about why I do not.

I'll try to start another thread after Sabbath is over. And yes, I agree, it would be great to have more than one opinion. I'm sure that Sassy and Honor will join in because we've personally been slammed with this subject on several occasions. :(

Thanks Tall and I'll talk to you soon (I will pray that your outreach to those 50 people goes well and that the Holy Spirit stays with them long after you've planted those seeds)!

Ahhh...Modern writers and evangelists can be very good.

I was saved by an Adventist on the TV!

But I have a challenge for all here:

Where is your church's library? Do you have one? Is it used by you?

If Adventist scholars are good, they have read our old books.

Do you?

I'm not talking just about EGW books...they are vital in every sense.

Where is your church's library?

We have a loaning library in the front of the church actually. It has a limited selection of books, about 25 at a time, that we cycle in and out so they get a variety. The larger library is in a wing of the church and they can borrow from it too, but rarely do.

That's about the norm for our Churches world-wide that we have seen in our travels.

I found an ethusiastic librarian with a real hunger for from God for our Message is the key. The other key is to not worry about people not returning the book; rejoice! and let them keep it. Replacement is easy and should be budgeted for.

Our books bought new at ABCs are pretty pricey, and folks tend to end up not reading at all.

We have had one of the largest outputs (by volumns and variety) of Protestant Christian books in Christian history, yet our own people today barely crack a book, folks are making all sorts of theological opinions without much real study and have dismissed our founders and workers without reading their writings.

The most outspoken critics of EGW are those who have rarely if ever read her books, small works like Steps to Christ, the exception.

Pretty scary isn't it? Wonder who is behind all this? Wonder why our books are allowed to mold and grow dust in our very own backyards, when folks are starving for some hand to lead them back to the Bible and Adventist concepts?

Don't expect doing "church-time" and quizzing your over-worked pastor to feed you souls.

Go find that church library! If you want to know who to read, let's talk here!

i see your point, but i would like to add something to it. yes, the churches library should be utilized more. but to say we should budget for books that are not returned is not (in my opinion) the best use of the Lords money, We should use all available money for evangelism and missionary work.

You are right, our books can be pricey. But i think that is when other members come into the fold. Like one of our good friends. We are always borrowing books from them and reading them. I feel it would be best suited for the members to take it upon themselves to share there books with other members. And not bother the church with this. The church has already so much to do and budget for.

It could be as simple as members having a sheet in the hallway or bulletin board with what books they have (everyone on one sheet ). If you see one on there that you have been wanting to read, go to that member. I think it could work just as well as a designated church library.

what do you think??

I think you're right...

We have a library, but it's full of books donated by church members. Ellen White's books are always out, one or another has them at home reading them. We have some videos, dvd's etc., but whatever inventory is there is there due to the generosity of church members.

I have been blessed to have two of Ellen White's books given to me, so that I can have them here at home to read and read again.

I love the way our church is always reading and studying...if not the bible, then writings by Ellen White and others. As a friend put it once in one of these forums, our homes like that of the Library of Congress. :)

But books are evangelism and missionary work! Used SDA books are very cheap, easily obtainable online, or as I used to do, swapped with other churches.

Depending on the size of town or city you are in, other SDA churches have a surplus of certain books with no need for them. One church visited was full of seniors and no kids, yet their library was full of children's books from the 50's and 60's. The Academy nearby had few children's books and tons of old books on doctrinal and devotional subjects from the 40's...I made a swap and two churches were happy.

As for a church budgeting for "lost books" ; I duobt if you would loose $100's worth in 3 years...surely that could be budgeted for.

Our books are silent missionaries, lonely night companions and the greatest tool of the Holy Spirit we have.

Yes, actually quite a few check out from the small one. since we rotate them and they are right out in front people see one they want often enough.

The paper-back format on all the EGW conflict of the ages series is quite affordable now. We give away Steps to Christ, Desire of Ages, Great Controversy, and then have others for loan.

We also give away the Doug Bachelor Last Day Events DVD just to get folks interested.
