We have people on this forum who are asserting that the modern day use of the gift of tongues is just "gibberish" and not true tongues. On a thread, I have given two examples where tongues were spoken and someone nearby heard praises to God spoken in their own dialect. One happened in a prayer meeting where one of my closest friends spoke in tongues and it was understood by an African who said that my friend spoke in his own village dialect, something that my friend could never have known. The other happened with me personally where I spoke quietly in tongues during a church service, and a Maori lady nearby told me that I was praising God in the Maori language, and I had not learned that language.
What I would like on this thread are testimonies of believers who have had the same experiences, or heard of friends or fellow believers who have spoken in tongues and others have heard what was said in their own languages. This would show that modern day tongues is not meaningless gibberish, but can be understandable languages that the Holy Spirit can make known to those who need to hear it and be encouraged in their faith. But it also shows that even though no one else could understand the language, God can, and so the tongues languages are not gibberish at all.
We need not be ashamed of what God has given us to enhance our experience with him. The people who need to have egg on their faces are those who are saying that those who speak and pray in tongues are mistaken or liars when they say that the tongues are understandable languages.
