  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why would you even want one, You just chip your teeth and the thing is really irritating. Plus You give the impression that your going to be using it for the wrong reasons.

If you get a clear one you wont ever be able to see it.

obviously you didn't read my post. i don't care what people think about it. i'm married. if i did use it for that, it doesn't matter. i'd be using it on my husband. and second, like i stated above, the metal can't be switched with the clear one for 3-6 weeks.

You can actually get HEP C from tatoo's and piercings ( no matter how clean they say they are, unless they use 100% new equipment every time, which they don't, there is a risk.)

Make certain they are reputable and properly sterilize all their equipment in an autoclave.

Why risk it?

not if you go to a place where people are liscensed and sanitary. why does everyone feel the need to tell me why i shouldn't get it done? i've done the research and i know the risks. i want to get it done, i'm just not sure how to do it without it being seen.

I'd just get it done. Unless it's considered unsafe or something during training, in which case, hold off.

But is there anyone you could ask about it? Like in the forces already? I wouldn't think they could discharge you for something, unless it was proven to be unsafe.

I'm in an office, and they can't really fire someone for big tattoos, so I can't understand why it would be much different.

How can i get my tongue pierced in the air force and not get caught? the lady i talked to at the shop said she can't switch the barbell out to a clear one until 3-6weeks after the initial piercing. and i only have 5 days off work... any suggestions?

My personal suggestion is that you don't try to find ways to break the rules. If you can't get it pierced because you are in the air force, perhaps you should respect that. It's a want, not a need. Find something else to induldge in.

Just for the record, I have a tattoo on my left forearm, and I'll be getting my nose pierced, and maybe tongue and lip done eventually, it's not like I'm against piercings/tattoos. I'm just saying, I find it really fishy when people say "How do I do this and not get caught" -- maybe you should just respect the rules that are in place whether you like them or not.

Finding ways to purposely break rules is hardly a Christian ideal. Don't get me wrong: We all do that kind of thing on occasion, but frankly this can be easily avoided.

About the only way that you couldn't get caught with the thing is if you just keep your mouth closed the whole time you're in the Air Force. Or at least for those first few weeks.

:p

Seriously, though, if it would jeopardize you getting into the Air Force, or staying in or whatnot, it's something you should really think hard about. Would it be worth it to potentially get kicked out for something like that? Couldn't you just wait until after you're finished with the Air Force? And for the record, I have no idea about the rules and regulations in the AF in regards to this. Just in case I sound like an idiot.

you've heard everyone else's reasons and i agree. it's really not worth breaking the rules and perhaps getting kicked out for a tongue ring. that being said, i don't know how you can get away with it. they swell up for a couple of days (i know you have 5 off) but the swelling doesn't always go down 100% by then. plus, these kinds of piercings are easier to get infected. and then you have a big mess on your hands. i realize you're probably very clean but mouth sores are a different beast. (i've never had one myself because of this, but friends have) i would just wait until you're out. if you still want it, then go for it. if you don't, then it wouldn't have been worth all the trouble of sneaking around anyway. but seriously, pray about it. we're supposed to obey the laws of the land unless they contradict God. that should be your answer.

Don't get it. You've already said that your TSgt doesn't like you, and the last thing you need is an E-6 finding out you have a tongue ring on a bad day. Especially if he's already got you pegged as somebody he thinks is trying to skate by, not saying you are, but if he's got you pegged in his head that's that. At the point where somebody he's got pegged screws up that much, that's not a warning that's an NJP, and frankly I don't think that as an Airman with a family docked pay is going to be something that you should be willing to put your family through over a tongue ring.
