  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Have you heard prices have been going up everywhere on all kids of things? This could be shopping restaurants, gas station and maybe other bills. It's been all over the news.

Since this has occurred is this taking a hit on your salary or budget at home keeping up with all of this? Can you share how well you're doing with all these things? No need to mention ones income. Just talk about price changes. If this has affected you or even others you know personally to talk about.

The question is not about new paper reports or the government side of rising prices.

What I'm really asking is this. Are these prices affecting you personally at home or anywhere you go? Such as shopping, eating out, gas station and regular bills. Can you tell the prices are higher in your life? Does this bother you at all? Has this changed you way of buying and shopping anywhere, eating out gas? Is your budget more difficult then years ago? Are you switching to other name brands, restaurants, and gas station choices to search for cost value items and service of any kind? Even car repairs or plane travel as well. .

So this topic is it hitting your budget? What's life now than say10 yrs ago perhaps?. . Do you think your dollar value is not getting its worth much these days shopping, buying and paying bills anything use of money purposes.? So this post is about how does this personally effect your budget spending and even others you personally know that talked to you about the cost of living issue?. . Now let's see if this makes a difference now how to discuss this more in a personal everyday life issue at home and out places . . even internet shopping too.

everything rose for us under former Pres!

our weekly grocery bill doubled
same food, double the price at checkout

we made cost cutting choices when husband was downsized out of job several years ago & he took a huge pay cut with new job

then:
-we cut cable TV
-we paid bills first, then got groceries so we lived on baked potatoes for dinner for several mos (pre - parenthood)

now:
-husband does any repairs in house himself
-got bike for teen at garage sale & haggled down to $20
-we haven't clothes shopped in 17 mos
teen shopped our closets/made adjustment to our old clothes for herself, lol
-husband buys certain thing ONLY when on sale such as laundry detergent
-we only eat out 3X/yr for our b'days
past yr ordered online, pulled up, popped trunk
-as sahm, I don't drive much so use less gas
my 2011 vehicle has less than 60,000 miles
-we recycle & teen goes into recycle box for "stuff" when she crafts
-husband haggles on prices even at big box stores
-we take things on trash days from others, lol
how we got our wheelbarrow

The price changes haven't had a negative impact on me, my loved ones, or close friends. We're debt averse or debt free. Our dollar isn't working as hard to meet our needs.

I do most of my shopping through the Internet or Instacart. I've avoided stores since the pandemic. We go to the farmers market and acquire a lot of goods directly or in bulk from Costco and Amazon.

We haven't stopped eating out or delayed home improvement projects. Travel is on hold for the moment. We're eco-friendly and make a lot of things ourselves or spend more for green options.

Entertainment wise, we subscribe to several streaming services. We're cable cutters but the costs are relative when you add it up. We share access to some things with relatives. Like Prime, Netflix, and Spotify. We take advantage of family options.

I'm self-employed and work from home. I don't have commuting, clothing, or gas expenses. I live in walking distance to everything. I don't need a car. My living costs aren't very high. There's a lot of things I don't require or I can write it off as a business expense.

I'm adept at money management and did it professionally. I'm not frugal or a spendthrift. I believe in living within my means. There's always a cushion because I'm not on the tail end of that number. I like having reserves and discretionary income.

My family has the same mindset. They settled their debts before retiring to allow them to live comfortably. We pay cash for most things and use credit responsibly.

We get food stamps because of our income. We can see the price changes more than those having more income monthly. . In fact this time our food stamps didn't make it through the month . . At least we still have some things to make. We can't shop until the first. . Still need to be careful on that to make it through to September. . The issue for us is mostly shopping . . Also sometimes need to take a break in cooking. Eating out even has outrageous prices. Even those so called value meals. How can a whopper, fries, and drink be near $10. . I don't see any value in that. . Wendy's is similar. Taco Bell and KFC charge an extra $5. Plus tips. .

Most of our shopping is online. plus a friend who helps us to get missing items in his area. When he comes over he'll pick up a few items over at the other store whose delivery system is kind of messed up. He picks up things from there.

My friend here at home got hit with some violations from the city. Including the garage. . . That put a big hit on a credit card. That's why we don't have much money to back us up after bills etc. . I guess we are felling the effects of food prices. We don't drive. So that's not an issue.

The biggest price increases I feel are gasoline and other energy sources. Many electronics also have become more expensive.

I don't think this will last. It's an effect of the economy going back to normalcy after a year of being on the back burner, and now suppliers can't keep up with demand. It will go up and down a few more times and then be at a comparable level to before covid-19.

I can't imagine being on food stamps and eating out. Or using a credit card.
