  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken…(Acts 4:31)

The Bible teaches of many miracles. I wanted to witness the same wonders around me. I thought purity and holiness were the key for which I pushed myself hard. This caused many anguishes because I was not becoming noticeably pure and holy.

Truly, when one is pure and holy, he will be able to perform many miracles and wonders. But I am learning something different from this passage of Acts. When believers became one heart and prayed together, the glory of God came among them and shook the ground.

Individually, believers must strive for purity and holiness. And I know many who seek holiness through fasting and prayers. But becoming one is equally important. In fact, it is easier for believers to become holy together than individually.

I want to become pure. But more than that I want to become one with my brothers. And the glory of the Father will be manifested more readily.

I see this one-ness was a prayer of Jesus...part of His last prayers.

"I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;
"that they may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, (why?) that the world may believe that You sent Me. John 17:20-21

No wonder there has been so much opposition to this "one-ness"... something will happen to our witness...just by our relationships to each other...people will come to recognize Who Jesus is...that there is a God...that this God...sent Jesus.

AW Tozer's Pursuit of God will address this issue. (out of Chapter 7, the Gaze of the Soul)

Someone may fear that we are magnifying private religion out of all proportion, that the `us' of the New Testament is being displaced by a selfish `I.' Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other? they are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to another standard to which each one must individually bow. So one hundred worshippers met together, each one looking away to Christ, are in heart nearer to each other than they could possibly be were they to become `unity' conscious and turn their eyes away from God to strive for closer fellowship. Social religion is perfected when private religion is purified. The body becomes stronger as its members become healthier. The whole Church of God gains when the members that compose it begin to seek a better and higher life.

Amen!

Brother Deg,
I understand your concern. You could have rebuked me with your own words, but in gentleness and humility, you quoted a well known author. I ask the Lord to add to your gentleness for it.

In fact, my post was a continuation of a previous post. If you read it, you will know that I am of the same mind.

I ask ..... on behalf of those
who will believe in me through their (the Twelve) word,
that they may all be one. (John 17:20)

I have friends at my church. But I am not one with them yet. If I revealed the most secret desires to them, still I wouldn’t be one with them.

There is inner me that even I do not know. Unless I share inner me with my brothers, I cannot be one with them. Only Jesus knows inner me and only his words reveal inner me (to me). I read the Philippians.

Regard others better than yourselves. (2:3)

This word of Jesus, spoken through Paul to me, revealed inner me, to whom most of my brothers were not better than myself.

I want to be one with my brothers at my church. But if we do not reflect ourselves on the words of Jesus, we do not know inner us. Without knowing inner us, we cannot share inner us. Without sharing inner us, we cannot be one. My anguish is that we do not know inner us.

I want to be one with the friends here at Deeper Fellowship. I want to share inner me with them, as they share inner them with me. That is my prayer.

I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,
with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. Eph 4

According the God's Word ~ We are ALREADY one in Christ! It's just that we still have to manifest it. That can be the hard part!!!!

Blessings,
