• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

John Bunyan experienced many spiritual problems such as religious ocd.

I believe God used Bunyan to help all those who would suffer from OCD with religion. You should read his work.

Check out "The Pilgrims Progress "and Grace Abounding to the Chief of sinners

He is very important for people who are like us. He helped me so much in my understanding of receiving forgiveness and grace.

Whenever you think you have done something God will not forgive you for, remember,

John 6:37
All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

1 John 1:7-9

7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

ALL Sin ALL unrighteousness

And if you ever think your normal actions are sin, remember this verse, this verse helped Martin Luther realize his works would not save him, and that the normal actions he did does not matter for the righteous live by faith not by works,

Romans 1:17
17For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

You're justified by faith. No need to repeat actions, Jesus is your righteousness.

ALL your righteousness is in heaven at God's right hand, Jesus Christ. :D - you'll learn this from reading about John Bunyan

The righteousness from God comes through faith in Christ Jesus, for there is no difference, for all have sinned, therfore the Righteous will live by faith in Jesus.

I will pray for all those who are struggling like me.

Remember, Jesus is the only way to the Father, He is the only way.

God Bless,

I'm praying for you guys tonight.

:D Keep up the fight, follow the Lord.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I heard that about Bunyan before too.
I also read a book by a monk named Brother Lawrence called "Practicing the presence of God". This dear Christian man who was such a light for Christ suffered for 10 years thinking that he might still be going to hell even though he'd trusted Christ for salvation. In reading his book I'm fairly certain he had OCD.
Finally he was free from these obsessions which caused him quite a lot of misery. When he died he went to heaven completely peaceful and joyful. God had prepared him to come home. I've seen that happen with close Christian family members who are now home with the Lord. He removed their fear and gave them peace when it was time to come home.
I try very hard to live minute by minute, step by step instead of running ahead of God. His grace is for now...and he has told me not to dwell on my tommorrows. Not an easy thing for us OCD'ers eh? :)
