I myself am a vet, and my buddy Mike (active duty USMC) wrote this when operations in Afghanistan started. I thought you'd appreciate it as much as I did the first time I heard it. I knocked the wind out of me.

My Watch
by Mike Corrado

I come from an Island
In the Carolina sand
Where I was broke down, built up and reborn a fighting man
My blood runs red, white and blue
I’ll brave the cold, the rain, the pain and the bullets so you don’t have to

Don’t worry about me; I’ll be all right
Just care for your children and sleep tight
I’ll keep you safe on my watch tonight

It’s a long, long way from that island
And a long way from home
With the thought of you standing behind me
I could never be alone

There’s a promise I need you to make
While I’m gone you take care of the love
And I’ll deal with the hate

Don’t worry about me; I’ll be all right
Just care for your children and sleep tight
I’ll keep you safe on my watch tonight

Don’t worry about me; I’ll be all right
Just care for your children and sleep tight
I’ll keep you safe on my watch tonight
If you want to hear the actual song, it's at mikecorradoband.com, under sights&sounds. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Take care.

My brother in-law's a former Marine. Served a tour in Iraq and was wounded one night Mosul, shortly after the 26th MEU moved in. By God's grace, he is here with us today. Ironically, he was wounded the same night his son was born.

By the way, where can we buy just a copy of that song?

Peace be with you

What in the world does everyone else hating Bush have to do with you posting offensive statements in this thread?

And give me a bit to respond to the rest of your post, I'm not as polished on certain passages of the Bible as I should be.

What I mean is...if youre in the army then youre going to hell..."turn the other cheek"? Just for geeks..or? Mayby you all should try to read the bible instead of listening to your stupid preident....
"Turn the other cheek" is something people should do within the confines of society. To suggest we have no soldiers is to suggest you'd prefer to be a Nazi, Soviet Socialist, or dead body in a mass grave. Without brave men and women to fight evil people who espouse errant ideals, might makes right. Just ask the survivors and relatives of Saddam's rape and torture rooms.

While I'm against this current war in Iraq I do know that in times of desperation God HAS allowed his people to go to war. I've got plenty of friends who are marines (Camp Pendleton is about 2 freeway exits from where I work) and some are still in Iraq and Afghanistan and patrolling the areas surrounding North Korea.

The song was beautiful and thanks for sharing it.

Personally I give EVERYONE the freedom to speak and I think to get offended because someone's views are different than your own is immature. I didn't read a single word in swedishbilbo's first post that was even a hint at an insult and I read nothing in his further remarks that was offensive or even showed that he lost his temper at all.

WarSong I know you're a patriot. You'll defend your government right or wrong (and I'm sure you were just as pro-president during the 90s) because it's America the best country in the world. However might I suggest that if you feel this way you at least keep your temper if you wish other people to consider your arguments and perhaps even come to see things your way. Getting angry at them as a first defense will only push people away from your views.

God bless the troops. May they all come home safe and may we not need to go to war again for a long time.

Must every insult be blatant? It's not like he has been contributing to these discussions, more like trying to attack the reasons for a military.

I think all those like the producer of Fahrenheit 911 and anyone else who hates their own country should be shipped out to Iraq and we should send the ones who love their country home. I am so tired of hearing people talk about Bush this and Bush that. FOR GOODNESS SAKE! Whether you like it or not there is a war going on. There are men and women sacrificing so that you can sleep safe at night and not worry about being attacked here at home. You sleep in peace at night while they go through hell. I'm sorry but if you don't like it then you go and do it. You go sacrifice everything for your country to serve God and your country. THEN you might have something to say. Otherwise shut up. There are MUCH more productive ways to get a political agenda across or make a statement than making movies like F 911 and putting bumper stickers on your car that say Bush is satan. Do you really think people will listen to you if you do this? DO YOU REALLY THINK THIS WILL CHANGE ANYTHING??? NO. So be quiet and quit complaining you spoiled liberals.

Sorry but I"m sick of there being a lack of support for the US military. It disgusts me. Aren't democrats supposed to be FOR helping people? Sure doesn't seem like it!

That is a double-edged sword you wield. It was not to long ago that Conservatives enjoyed trashing Clinton, an elected leader of the nation. If remove the citizen's right to question the motives of their elected officials and adopt a "do as I say or get out," you no longer have a democracy. Is it safe to say that you and other Conservative Americans will be enlisting for the Armed Services if Kerry should win the election? Myself, I despise Bush and Cheney and the way they have handled the Iraq war. However, during the Afghan war, the President had my support.

You are tired of individuals like Michael Moore? I have grown sick and tired of the ludicropathetic horses**t being tossed by the Democrats and Republicans. What happened to the unity this nation had after 9/11? The GW2 is not a viable excuse, given the number of "liberal communists" voicing their disgust with Bush prior to 9/11. Advocating the internment or conscription of US Citizens legally excercising their freedom of speech is far from actions of a "democratic nation." The division that has occurred within the past year could easily have been a hidden motive of the 9/11 hi-jackers.

May God bless our armed forces, who without their bravery and sacrifices, neither would have the Freedoms we have now.

i'm darn proud of our soldiers. You guys are in my prayers every night...nothing gives me more pride then to see a person in their BDU's. ...and that song...that completly rocks...gosh, made me cry. It just sounds so selfless. .... *beams with pride*

Just because we're in war doesn't mean that everyone agrees with it. Our soldiers agreed to sign up for the army, and fight for our country. no matter what. That doesn't mean they can choose their wars.

edit: woah...completly didn't see the second pg of posts. sorry if it's outta' place.

I agree. Our soldiers sign up for the chance to fight for our country and defend our freedoms however they don't get to pick their wars. If our government wants to invade Canada, they can't stand up and say "WO! My family is in Canada! I'm not going there!"

We need to support our troops no matter the fight. We can question our leaders and we SHOULD question our leaders. I hear all this talk about being anti-american if you question President Bush. Were those people just as anti-American for questioning President Clinton? No and neither are those that question the current administration. We have opinions. We have morals. We voice them. Majority rules but all get their say. That's how a democracy works. If you want socialism or a dictatorship maybe you need to speak up and say so.

I'm a Proud Liberal who has served his Country for over 20 years in the United States Army. I harbor an intense dislike for Bush, he has in my opinion done a miserable job leading this country. For people to equate approving of Bushes lies, corruption and undermining of the Constitution with loving this country is just disgusting.

It is also disgusting to see disaproval of Bush equated with disaproval of our troops. Our troops serve the leadership we elect, regardless of their personal feelings and beliefs. They are heroes regardless of the illegality and immorality of this war, the American people owe them a debt of gratitude for thier sacrifice as well as an apology for electing such sorry leadership.

F9/11 is a side of the story that the media refuses to tell, that alone is reason to support it, see it and encourage others to do so.

it's a biased and slanted side that only provokes more hatred and division in our country.

And the morology spewed from hard core conservatives like Limbaugh and Coltier does nothing to provoke hatred within the country? In all honesty, it is the actions of individuals like Limbaugh and Coltier that fuel my disgust for the hard core conservatives. The movie, F9/11, is "biased" to the conservative point of view. On the opposite side of the spectrum, windbags like Limbaugh and Coltier are biased to the liberal point of view. That said, is bias not defined by the eyes of the beholder?

SwedishBilbo,

I am sorry you feel the way you do. My husband is in the army and has been in for nearly 19 years (he didn't join to go out and kill by the way), and he happens to be a christian. You are entitled to your opinion, but I really don't think God is going to ask for your opinion when He has to decide who goes to heaven and who doesn't. I would explain why he joined to army, but you would just not begin to understand. I will say, though, that it saddens me when people pick out a group of people and just say off the cuff that they are all going to hell. I am conservative, but I wouldn't dare attempt to speak for God about whether anyone who doesn't agree with me on the issues is going to hell or not. I have no idea what is in that person's heart and why they believe the way they do, and I am not God. There is only one God, and none of us should be arrogant enough to speak for Him.
