I was diagnosed with TMJD a few years ago. I wear a splint at night to control it. I never took the best care of my teeth. I am taking good care of them now though. The thing is, even when I am taking good care of them, I still have the unfortunate opportunity to see my teeth get destroyed through bruxism. I also suffer from tinnitus which could be related.
What I am praying for is total recovery. For my teeth to be restored, my enamel to be regrown if God sees fit. Also, for my jaw to go back into its appropriate position. I know in someways it is a lot to ask, when people need prayer more than I do. But, it would be nice if I can solve this particular health problem.
Thanks and blessings.
Hi Hidden,
I understand TMJD, as basically I've had it all my life but I didnt let any diagnosis of such come upon me, and through not knowing what it was and exercise has kept it controlled.
Why are you are wearing a splint at night? Is it a splint between the teeth?
I realise that the Pain associated with TMJD can be very intense. The most frustrating part I experience is biting my lips often, and the pain is intense. My lips are swollen most of the time, and you cant but bite the lips when chewing food due to the unevenness of the teeth. This swelling and some of the symptoms that are recognised as TMJD are in fact caused by other environmental factors. Do your lips swell up?
Do you have difficulty when you are eating, that is, not able to open your mouth far enough to place the food into your mouth?
Do you get a feeling as if something in lodged in the joint on particularly side?
How long have you been suffering this in total, could there have been anything specific that may have caused it?
I know that a variety of symptoms are linked to TMJ disorders (TMJD). Pain, particularly in the chewing muscles and/or jaw joint, is the most common symptom.
Do the muscles along the front of your ears where the muscles are swell up?
Radiating pain in the face, jaw or neck is more like an inflamed muscle, but it doesnt bother me.
My jaw muscle does get stiff, but I just exercise them by moving the lower jaw side to side and up and down. Something I feel as though the joints are going to pop out.
I have the aching pain in and around my ears, but that is more noticeable when the muscles swell on one side near the ear.
I dont have any real difficulty chewing, but only a slight discomfort while chewing but its something that you live with.
The clicking, popping or grating in the jaw joint when opening or closing the mouth again is something I accept and dont dwell on it or let it bother me, but I do exercise the jaw.
My problem has been due to a misfit of my upper and lower teeth fitting together, and it could have been at birth or I did something as a child, which I cant remember. I just keep on pushing my jaw over to correct some of the alignment, because that helps to stop me from biting my tongue as well.
Do you suffer with extreme headaches?
How extreme is your tinnitus?
Do you suffer from fatigue, dizziness, irritability, agitations, tension, drowsiness, sleeplessness, forgetfulness, and lack of concentration? I guess you do suffer from a bit of anxiety and depression?
Are you prepared to share with me?
Blessings
