  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Titus 3. What does it mean to you?

Titus 3

1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,

2 To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.

3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,

5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

10 A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject;

11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.

12 When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter.

13 Bring Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be wanting unto them.

14 And let our's also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.

15 All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen.

the saved by grace stood out for me

It did for me also...actually the whole verse 7 stuck out for me.

7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

I used to love to lay verse 9 out on the table when people started to argue about the law this and the law that...:sorry: Ahhh...memories...:)

1Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,

It's your duty to serve your community no matter who is in charge. In other words, you may have to work with those who are not of the best character to get things done.

2To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.
3For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

There but for the grace of God go you or I, or, you have faults so shut up.

4But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,

5Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
6Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
8This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

Pretty self explanatory. Saved by grace not works but, works should be something believers are doing.

9But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

10A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; 11Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.

Don't judge or condemn. Man have condemned himself without us adding insult to injury.
The rest I think just tells us to help our bother and sisters, be hospitable.

And easy way to sum up the whole chapter is service.

Obey the law of the land. Be respectful & reflect your Christianity while doing so through your actions & words.

2 To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.

Nothing nice to say about the man or woman themselves? Then don't say it.

3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
We too have fallen in the same areas & struggle with the same issue....sin. But for the grace of God, there go I.

4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,

5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
God showed mercy while we were still sinners. Should we not do he same?

7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Grace. We've been given grace. It is up to us to reflect that gift. Don't make others feel hopeless or unworthy of grace in their particular sins.

8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.
Faith without works is dead. Do not be a lazy servant but do what you can not to hide your light & plant seeds. You will know them by their fruits. We plant, God harvests.

9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
Ego driven theological debates should be avoided. The foundational principals of Christianity should be lived & extolled.

10 A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject;

11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.
There comes a time to dust one's feet & simply pray. You cannot allow confusion to be planted if you are knowledgable that it is being planted in the minds of those under your care.

12 When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter.

13 Bring Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be wanting unto them.
Greetings & care.

14 And let our's also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.
Faith & works. Furthering the Kingdom.

15 All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen.

Greetings & blessings to brethern.
