  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hello there!

Just last night i saw this article on MSN about how time travel could be possible but NOT likely in the near future.
Here are my questions about that:
  1. What would God think about time travel?
  2. If you could go into the future would you?
  3. Is there ANY scripture that supports time Travel (as I don't recall seeing any)?

Time Travel already is passable.

Right now it's 1 way though ;) Into the Future.

Get a pair of Twins, One stays on Earth, the second goes on the space shuttle. When the second one arives back, they will be a fraction of a second younger then the other twin, I.E. while they were traveling at a higher speed, they were moving through time more slower / faster (Depending on your perspective) then the other.

Now replace the shuttle with a Ship able to travel at 50% the speed of light. When the Twin that leaves for the trip returns, there other Twin may well be dead, and have great grand kids. From the that twins perspective, they went into the Future.

Hello there!

Just last night i saw this article on MSN about how time travel could be possible but NOT likely in the near future.
Here are my questions about that:

What would God think about time travel?
It's hard to say.
I wonder if it would depend upon the motive of the person's heart?

If you could go into the future would you?
I've seen the first installment of Back to the Future
with Michael J. Fox at least 30 times,
plus the rest of the trilogy a few times.
Based on my fears of messing up the time/space continuum,
I probably wouldn't want to go.

Besides, does the future really exist?
I doubt it.
Does the past exist, so that we could visit it?
I doubt that, too,
though it is fun to think about it.

Is there ANY scripture that supports time Travel (as I don't recall seeing any)?
I don't remember any either.

Thinking about it a little more:

I thought about how God didn't like it when His people sought out fortune tellers to tell them the future:

Deuteronomy 18:14-15
14 for these nations, which you are about to dispossess, listen to fortune-tellers and to diviners. But as for you, the LORD your God has not allowed you to do this.
15 "The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers--it is to him you shall listen--
[ESV]

Maybe God would view traveling into the future the same way.

I don't think it will be possible. That is too risky to mess around with. Besides why would you WANT to time travel? Some might say because of regrets and changing things in the past... but that's what makes us who we are!
Is seeing ancient Rome a good enough reason? :p

What would God think about time travel?

Where is my fly swatter..... translation? God transends time both existing in and out of time, permeating time yet not touching it, existing in the now yet conducting the future and recording the past..... if man was traveling around in time....God is greater...

If you could go into the future would you?

Only if I could come back to mess things up more than they are now....

Is there ANY scripture that supports time Travel (as I don't recall seeing any)?

The mount of Transfiguration where Moses and Elijah are seen with Jesus Christ.....so much a reality to Peter he was ready to build houses for the three of them....Time travel?

There is also an Orthodox tradition that says when Mary the mother of my God fell asleep in the Lord in Jerusalem, the Apostles were transported through time to be with her together with the other Apostles....

not to mention the transendant nature of the Eucharist, mans connection with the transendant eternal heavenly hosts before the throne of God....

God transends time....

Good example,
though it was non-human folk doing the time travel,
not human folk,
but still...

BttF is one of my all-time favorite series of movies. That said, I always wanted to scream at Dr. Brown, "No, Doc, you aren't thinking 4th dimensionally. When Marty arrives back in 1985, he won't be on the RR tracks, the Delorian will be hurtling through space and Marty will be splattered all over the interior from explosive decompression because the earth will be 100 trillion miles from here in 100 years!"

Uhh...:sorry: That just always peeved me as a fan of hard scifi.

My favorite book on time "travel" is Timescape by Gregory Benford. It give one of the most realistic (in my mind) treatments of messing with time. Though there is no time travel involved and it does deal with the issue of the earth being constantly moving through space as well as time.

Time travel will never happen, if it did we would already have seen its effects. Time probably isn't even an actual thing, never mind something that can be travelled through. And God wants us to make mistakes and learn from them
How could you distinguish between what I'll call a normal event vs. an event triggered by a time traveler?

In other words, if I consitently went back in time to a McDonalds where you are eating, how would you know I wasn't supposed to walk through the door, or that I had already done so that very minute several times? Would you even know I was enjoying the endless cheese burger? Oh the wonders time travel would do for the waistline...
