I saw earlier today (actually, now it would be yesterday) that the Big Bang theory is history, and now it's the Big Bounce theory? Astounding, eh? I must've done at least 3 double-takes.

Where did you see that the big bang is "history"?

Big bounce and big bang are not rival theories, the big bang theory would actually be part of the big bounce "theory" (hypothesis would be a better description). While the big bounce is somewhat satisfying I dont really think it's true considering observations are indicating that the universes expansion is accelerating, which seems to run counter to what we should be observing in a big bounce scenario.

The Big Bounce theory.

You talk as if it has supplanted the BB theory. From what I gather it's a suggested model that there's no scientific consensus on. That's what scientists do, they constantly try to come up with models that better explain the data than generally accepted models. The exact opposite of dogma and religion.

Personally I think it's an appealing model and I find it more intuitive than a expansion from a singularity. Not that my intuition matters of course, as reality is often counter-intuitive.
