  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Tim Robbins' improv classes in Califorinia prisons are yielding impressive results

California seems to be a leader in innovation. They also have a program bringing the enneageam to prisons and one of my friends studied there to bring the program to our state. (She is Episcopalian, so please don't criticize her orthodoxy.)

For drama, of course. Cmon it's the 21st century Michie get with it! It's all about drama........
These off topic insertions in threads are becoming quite the habit. Anyway, I knew Tim Robbins was an active liberal but I had never heard of this prison program until now. It is quite impressive.

Not what the thread is about. I know it is enjoyable to plants these seeds but I'm not really interested in what your 'friend' is doing with her 'controversial among Catholics enneagram.' We are talking about what Tim Robbins is doing.
The enneageam is controversial among Catholics but prisoners are experiencing great benefits. She is now working in a women's prison in our state with this ministry.

The topic has a "big picture" theme as well.

We are also talking about California's willingness to try innovative ways to rehabilitate prisons--which are a model for the country.

You can look at that story two ways: Tim Robbins starting a successful program in a California prison--

or California, while other states are teaming with for-profit prison companies to warehouse their incarcerated, is trying many different pathways to help change the prisoners' lives.

Enneagram Prison Project | Freeing The Incarcerated from the Prisons of Our Own Making | Susan Olesek Enneagram Facilitator

This is the big picture story--not just Tim Robbins' program, not just the Eneagram prison project, but a state showing leadership in reducing recidivism, and producing model programs which are now being used in other states.

No... I read the article again. Just this program.

I respect your right to have a narrow perspective and would appreciate the same courtesy.

Having different perspectives is no reason for personal attacks.
I have not personally attacked you. You can keep your narrow perspective and start your own thread if you want. I promise I'll have the courtesy not derail it with nonsense.

No need to criticize. Upon saying Episcopal, it was criticized for us.

We knew nothing of her being an episcopalian until you brought it up. Why would anyone bother criticizing her orthodoxy? It's not at all what the thread is about.
Ever notice that in every topic, she always "knows someone" who does this or that that is controversial or sinful, but it always produces great things, etc?

I'm beginning to believe Fantine is a genius.

“You’re not supposed to show happy or sad or being frightened,” says Bisbano. “It’s a sign of weakness.”
So the drama classes are an outlet for the stress of living in a prison.
How humanistic! Some prisoners may not be rehabilitable (??) but I can see the value of treating people like human beings. Otherwise they live the rest of their lives like animals in prison.
Credit to tim robbins and others for this!

That was a great movie but tough to watch.
It was good to see the victory of brains over sadistic physical brutality.
But I agree. Some of those scenes are just so confronting.
