Did this sabbath fall 72 hours before they found the stone rolled away?
Nope! Not according to scripture. Jesus was crucified about 3 PM on the day of preparation , i.e. Friday, Can you squeeze 72 hours out of this passage?
Luke 23:53-56
(53) And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.
(54) And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.
(55) And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.
(56) And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
Luk 24:1-2
(1) Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
(2) And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.

Try this:
Luke is very clear, he does not say the women rested on the Sabbath, then they worked all the next day and rested on the second sabbath, then early the next morning.

That's because Luke did not write the gospel of Mark. Mark did.

I'm trying to swear off participating in this thread any more. But some things said are so amazing I just have to comment on them.

What is your point or do you even have one? Here is what I quoted.

You all seem to forget what the witnesses on the road to Emmaus said. It was on the first day of the week (Sunday) and they said it was now the 3rd day since the events happened. Sunday (16th of Nisan...3rd day), Sabbath (15th of Nisan...2nd day) and Friday (14th of Nisan...the day the events occurred...crucifixion). There is a reason that story is there, especially for Jews.

I think you know what the point is. So does everyone else.

But I'll humor you anyway since you seem determined to pursue it further.

You cherry picked the passage in Luke and did not reference that in Mark which is also God's word on the matter.

Of course Luke doesn't outline the 72 hours exactly and clearly for us - even though they are obviously there.

Of course no one can show you 72 hrs. in Luke without bringing Mark's additional description of the events to bear on it.

Your post was not only silly it was disingenuous.

My comment on your post was a backhanded way of pointing out your duplicity without having to outright call you dishonest.

The Lord was not dead three days and three nights but instead three days and three nights in the hands of sinners(heart of the earth). This is clearly shown to be the case in a study by Victor T. Houteff. Links to his studies and charts and one by Brother Don Adair below.

Three Days & Three Nights in the heart of the earth

I hope this helps to show the truth about the meaning of what the three days and three nights in the heart of the earth actually was.

You misspelled Capice. Let's see if we can harmonize the 2 passages without creating a second sabbath where there is none, since 1st ULB is not a Sabbath..
Mar 15:42
(42) It was the Day of Preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath. Since it was already evening,[c.f. Lk 23:54]
Mar 15:47
(47) Now Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph observed where the body had been laid.[Lk 23:54]
Mar 16:1-2
(1) When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices to go and anoint Jesus.
(2) Very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had just come up, they were going to the tomb.[c.f Lk 24:1]
Mark says the women bought spices after the Sabbath was over. Luke said they prepared spices then rested on the Sabbath.. It is not likely that people kept all the spices etc. required for a burial in their home. What if they prepared whatever spices they had on hand then rested on the Sabbath and after sundown at the end of the only Sabbath they went out and bought more spices? And early the next morning went to the tomb.
Luke 23:53-56
(53) And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid
(54) And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.[c.f. Mk 15:42]
(55) And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.[c.f. Mk 15:47]
(56) And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
Luke 24:1-2
(1) Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.[c.f. Mk 16:2]
(2) And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.

I think the same is true for the Gentiles which were called "God Fearers, which attended synagogues. They also were grandfathered in. Therefore no wonder the law followed by the God fearing Gentiles were to be kept.
Yes, sad but true.

Jesus rose on that third day and not after the third day.
He was in the hands of sinners(sanhedrin/heart of the earth) alive 33 hours(beginning at his first legal trial) and was dead for a total of 39 hours. He arose early sunday morning on the 18th as Luke 24:1 states very early in the Morning he was already risen.
John-- "The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre." John 20:1.

Mark 16:9
9Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

After the sabbath was past, the women bought spices and prepared them. Mark 16:1
The women prepared the spices and ointments and rested on the sabbath. Luke23:56
How about quoting the context for each verse in Mark and Luke. Which will dispel the idea that Jesus was in the grave for three days and three nights.

Mark 15
47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Jesus were looking on to see where He was laid.

Mark 16:1-2
When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might come and anoint Him. Very early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen.

Mark's account of the death and resurrection of Jesus is certainly not three days and three nights.

Let's check Luke's account in the context and see whether we can conjure up a three day and three night duration.

Luke 23:55-56
Now the women who had come with Him out of Galilee followed, and saw the tomb and how His body was laid. Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. And on the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

Luke 24:1
But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared.

Luke's account is identical to Mark's account.

Jesus was never in the grave for three days and three nights. Jesus rose on the third day and was not in the tomb over the entire third day.

Never interpret the text and ignore the context.

He arose early sunday morning on the 18th?

'was dead for a total of 39 hours'?

No one knows the exact time that the Lord rose. So no one can establish the duration of time that the Lord was in the tomb.

Read the study, it outlines every hour from his arrest to first illegal trial to his first legal trial to his resurrection.
