• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I understand how you feel even though I don't have the same thoughts. It's the OCD not you that is causing you to have the thoughts. You have not sold your soul to the devil or you wouldn't care. When it happens, pray and rest in God. You might need some medication to help you. Don't give up on God because of it...It's a real sickness. Turn on some music and start thinking about other things. The more you try to NOT think of the thoughts, the more they will come so just try to relax and think of other things. I hope it gets easier soon!!! God bless!

Those thoughts aren't going to make you lose your salvation.
Romans 7:14-25 (NIV)
14 We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. 15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[c] For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. 21 So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!

I've had all kinds of nasty intrusive thoughts. I feel like God has shown me that it is not me thinking them, it is the OCD, and that even as bad as some of them have been, He still loves me. Remember that God loves you and wants your salvation, He isn't going to let some stupid mental illness screw it up.

Our souls belong to the Devil as soon as we commit our first sin. Whatever pleasure we gained from the sin was what we were paid. But Jesus paid a huge price to buy us all back. And nothing can pluck us out of His hand once we have been paid for.

Although in your case you must surely realize that these are not rational thoughts. I used to have intrusive thoughts that said all kinds of nasty things about God and Jesus. But eventually I realized that I surely wouldn't be held accountable for something I couldn't help. When I stopped worrying, the thoughts went away.

I grew up in a rather conservative family. As such I entered puberty clueless about the natural hormonal changes that take place in adolescents..

By the time I was 16 I wrote a suicide note to my family and decided to take my own life because I was convinced that I was the most evil person on earth!

Obviously I chickened out.. and now I realise that if I had just called out for help, like you have done, that this situation need never have gotten out of hand.

Now I am a 52 year old father and grandfather, diagnosed with various forms of OCD six years ago.

If I may offer the following practical encouragement:

Our tireless and cunning enemy uses this strategy (fiery darts) to try and destroy the faith of every Christian who has ever decided to follow Jesus. Although he cannot read your mind, he watches your 'body language' and if he sees that a particular 'dart' has struck home, he will follow this up with a progressive series of 'thought injections' that will, if not checked, eventually lead to sin.

Just as Jesus did when He was tempted, our very best defense against satan is to bring the SWord to bear. So arm yourself with some scriptures to use when you find the battle starting in your mind,

For example: "
Corinthians 10:5 (NIV)

"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."

We CAN choose what we will think about!
When undesirable\irrational thoughts 'pop' into our heads we can choose (on purpose) to think thoughts which are based on the truth that is in God's Word.

Let's get this straight: every thought that brings glory to God is true. Every thought that creates fear and confusion is a lie and it is placed there by the enemy!

I urge you to look up 'Who I am in Christ' via Google. Print these Biblical truths where you can see them and choose to memorise\quote them when the negative thoughts come. This is called 'renewal of the mind' as you practice thinking and speaking words that are true and come from God's Word.

I also listen (mostly) to Godly music. My favorite music is by Casting Crowns, Leeland, Newsboys, Philips Craig & Dean, Carmen. Many of their songs are God's Word put to music; all of them glorify God.

In fact, the Bible tells us that when the 'spirit of heaviness' comes, we are to respond by putting on 'the garment of praise' (Isaiah 61:3)

Singing praise or worship songs to God is a powerful way to keep your thoughts and your spirit lifted up.
