Greetings Brethren
Those of you who know me know that I oft skip Lent, focusing more on Advent instead
But Aside from cliché expressions such as giving up deserts for a month, I thought about a different way to do personal meaning and penance without the usual and tired old rituals.
I thought much about it. I have come upon a different quest, which expands upon one I have done in the past. From Ash Wednesday until Easter, instead of refraining from material goods, which interest me not anyway, I would like to endeavor to help those who may need help the most. And not just once, but daily. I am looking now at a "daily penance of charity" to be done throughout Lenten season, with both self-denial and selfless passion to be the hallmark of the season.
The Days will consist of the usual routines, work, family, etc But will be augmented by "an hour of service" (which depending on the activity, may be more or less than an actual hour, so long as the goal is met). There could be a day of collecting food to be delivered to a homeless shelter. It could mean stocking the "Blessing box" of things to share at an area church...It could be working extra, and earmarking the extra pay to assist and help a random congregation which may need it the most.
These are but a few of the possibilities when one starts to put oneself aside and focus on a season of charity.
Amen
