I was looking around via Google image search for pictures of Phish frontman Trey Anastasio, and I came across this site......

I really hope it is a joke. Frankly I cannot see how it could be serious. Its a site called http://www.americansforwar.com/ It lists the top 5 targets that America should attack. Guess who #4 is....? Trey Anastasio!!! (wait it gets better)

They claim that Trey is a terrorist, who wants to fund the Arab terrorists and if thats not ridiculous enough, that Trey is plotting a terrorist attack!

I think this is a joke, and if not I think its gotta be a website made by ultra left wing liberals to make conservatives look bad. In either case its pretty hilarious!

Trey Anastasio, the lead guitarist of Phish, has endorsed movements advocating the prohibition of drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve. This is seemingly benign, but he is supporting terrorism. By preventing oil exploration in Alaska, America’s dependency on foreign oil increases. Most of this money goes to the Middle East, from where terrorism originates. If Anastasio does not support America’s self-sufficency in energy, he certainly is not a patriot, nor he is on our side. Lets apply the Bush doctrine: if he provides support for terrorists, then he is a terrorist.
The band further supports terrorism - the greatest evil confronting the civilized world in the 21st century - through the drug use that is prevalent at its concerts. The connection between drugs and terrorism is well documented. The Department of Justice, in addition to protecting the homefront, has launched another campaign, a "pre-emptive strike," on non-violent offenders through Operation Pipe Dreams, which will to incarcerate thousands more for possesion of substances deemed "illicit" and supporting worldwide terrorist operations.

Phish has also sent out messages openly and covertly supportive of terrorism. In the Phish song Golgi Apparatus the band encourages violent chemical and biological attacks against American targets. The song begins with the announcement that "I look into my finance box just to check my status." This depicts the precautions taken by every terrorist cell - finding adequate funding. The lyrics next speak of entities called "Golgi" and "lysosome," cell structures which would be useful in a biological attack. Lastly, the band illustrates the outcome of the attack when it talks of spreading "woe." This "woe" refers to the effects of previous terrorist events. The song ends with the conclusion that "I couldn't get it wrong, so I had to." This should leave no doubt about their determination. They will stop at nothing to advance their aims.

Where will the next attack occur? Its difficult to say. Condoleeza Rice has warned that secret messages abound in terrorist missives. Golgi Apparatus hints at the location of the next attack. The song warns that "you can't even see the sea." This means that the threat is probably directed against a landlocked target. New York and Washington DC are safe, but cities like Chicago, IL are at risk. The song was written before the war on terrorism began. This is to be expected, as terrorist plots take years to create and properly execute.
My rebuttal:
1. Trey wants to support the environment. Oil is not our only power source. I cant believe I'm writing a "rebuttal."
2. There are people high on all sorts of things at any given concert. Phish doesn't endorse drugs in their lyrics.
3. Trey wrote Golgi Apparatus when he was 11 years old.

Here is the whole thing: http://www.americansforwar.com/targets_04.shtml

I really think this is run by some Bush-hating extreme left wing group. I've come across sites run by anti-Christians that are supposedly the home pages for churches and the purpose of the page is to make unsuspecting visitors leave with a terrible impression of Christianity. Same case here, they want you to leave with a terrible impression of our president and the conservatives, or anyone pro-war for that matter.

Unfortunately, I think they're serious. But this made me scratch my head:

Some of the arguments on this site seem flippant. Are you sincere?

What constitutes sarcasm is open to interpretation. As a prepared patriots, we should follow what the government advocates. Since the government advocates war, it is logical that we should advocate the same. The question may not be relevant, anyway. Couldn’t the same inquiry be raised about some of the points made during the Pentagon’s press conferences or Tommy Frank’s briefings at Central Command? Ari Fleischer may be sarcastic, or even satirical. Perhaps he’s laughing at us underneath his breath.

Wow... are we going back to the mid-1900's when celebrities were being labled as 'communist spies' for Russia?

Are we now going to start labling artists and celebrities as terrorist sympathizers?

It actually baffles me how some people can put up such things like this. Trey seems to be a really great guy who just loves making music...

I do not think they are serious. I think they do a good job at seeming serious, but they can't be. Their arguments have too many holes in them to be well thought out. If anyone knows Phish, they know that their lyrics are often non-sensical. Listen to Golgi Apparatus. There is no way that anyone in their right mind could draw that conclusion.
Patriot means you do what is best for your country, not blindly following what the government is doing. Government is not inherently good.

There is a website that I wont name that is the web site of a Baptist church in the midwest USA. I thought it was serious until I found out it was run by an extremely anti-Christian group. Coming away from that site, the uninformed mind would equate Baptists with Nazis. According to that site's portrayal of Baptists, it would be a correct conclusion. And thats the intention of the site. To set up a straw-man easily knocked down. Real Baptists are not what this site portrays.
This war site, you come away thinking that only crazy, war mongering lunatics can possibly believe the argument. You may even think that conservatives are like this. This is the intention of the site.
Of course, I do not know this for a fact, but I'd wager a lot on it.
