Last weeks question was answered by GEL and pressingon so they are not eligible for the question this week, unless by Wednesday I have no answer then it will open up again. (GEL is eligible for the "older brethren" question)

I want to make it a bit more beneficial to all so there will be two questions. One for the "younger" Christians, and one for the "older" christians though the younger christians are eligible to answer either or both.

Just want to add that these threads are for Anabaptist/Baptists please and thanks.

Question One (for the younger of our brethren)

Ok this one is a bit easier because last weeks was a bit tough.

No cheating! This should require at least a bit of searching for the younger Christians! :p

In what book of the Bible (there is only 1) is God not even mentioned?

Reward - 100 Blessings (and bragging rights!)

Question Two (for the younger or older brethren)

Ok this one is a bit tougher and will require some digging!
The prophet Daniel had three friends. These young men got themselves into a hot situation.

What were their names? Easy right? Not done yet!

What are the names of each and what do the names mean?
What was the significance of the name change??!?!?

This one is a bit brutal so the reward is 200 blessings, to be given or divided depending on how many answers there are.

Have Fun!!!

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego;
Daniel 1:6 Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:
7 Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.

The names were changed to honor pagan gods.
Shadrach-Commander of Aku/Achu (the sun god), or Aku’s/Achu’s command, or the servant of sin, or circuit of the son
Meshach-Who is what Aku/Achu is, or the shadow of the prince
Abednego-Servant of Nebo/Nego, or servant of Ishtar

Mishael-Who is what God is

Technically, this is in the form a question: "Who is like unto God?" It is rhetorical, because as we all know, the answer is "nobody!". :)

-Michael

;)

PS: People always spell my name incorrectly (despite "Michael" being the most popular male name in the US since the 30s)... they spell it "Micheal" for some reason. I correct them by saying that "El" is the Hebrew word for God and then tell them the Hebrew meaning... Hopefully that will stick with them and they'll spell it correctly from then on...

 GEL that was pretty quick.

Ok so when Nebuchadnezzar wished to have a few of the young Israelite prisoners taught in the Chaldean language and customs, he changed their names from Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, to Belteshazzar, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. (GEL has the definitions).

This was done to make them more Babylonian. Here is one part of the significance that GEL missed (but she got the jist of it).

In each case the Hebrew name contained a name for the true God (either el or iah, an abbreviation for Yahweh), and the Babylonian name (GEL got this part) contained the name of a heathen god.

200 Blessings for GEL!

 Godschosengirl

Esther is the only book in the Bible that does not even mention God.

100 Blessings for Godschosengirl

Thanks for participating!

BT-
Will the questions always be on Monday?
If so, maybe you should designate a time.

The questions will always be on Monday (as far as I know :p ).

I've been trying to mix up the times so that the same people don't always get first crack.. So I'm trying to shuffle it around so that people who are on at different times get the chance to answer the questions. I'm open to suggestions though... if you can think of a different way to make it somewhat fair :p

I have to take issue here. God is not mentioned in Song of Solomon either.
I'm not ignoring you Twin. In fact I think that you are right and I stand corrected. I'm looking at the Song of Songs right now. Now the Song of Songs is about God and his relationship with Israel, some would say the church, it is also about Solomon and one of his wives. It's an amazing book that you can get much knowledge from.. but I think you may be right in that it does not reference and of the names of God directly.

Esther is still unique in that God is not mentioned directly or indirectly... but I'm not splitting hairs. I'm giving Twin 100 blessings for the stump the chump (me) aspect.

Way to go Twin! And thank you for the insight!!!
