Read the first half of Exodus. This is the story this song is refering to. The chorus concentrates on the OT Scripture and the angel of Death sent as one of the plagues to Pharoah since Pharoah would not let the Israelites out of Egypt. The angel came killing all of the first born sons of the land whose doors did not have the blood of a spotless sacrifice spread on them. The second stanza refers to Moses. The third and final stanza talks about the angel of death.
When i was younger, I listened to this music and my favorite band was the aforementioned band. I thought this song was a way for me to resolve the inner conflict of the Holy Spirit cringing inside of me when I listened. I told myself "Hey! They're talking about the Bible! It can't be ALL bad!" Boy, was I wrong.
