I'm hitting the 40s this month.

now how do I get the wife to NOT make a big deal out of it ?

aw....don't hide. It is just that turning 40 was really hard on me. That is when everything started to go. I needed progressive lens in my glasses, my knee went, the metabolism slowed down even more than I thought possible, and my hair got thinner.

But after my body got done with all the changes, I had cataract surgery, kne replacement, I figured that there was nothing wrong with going bionic, one body part at a time.

Happy early birthday. I would enjoy the fanfare and fuss. It means that she loves you.

Why don't you just tell her you don't want her to do anything out of the ordinary for your birthday? She just might listen to you. I told my husband that and he threw a big surprise party for me anyway. Go figure.

I'd go with vg's suggestion and just ask her not to make a big deal over it. It might work.

Of course, if she hasn't hit 40 yet, you could threaten retaliation if she does throw a party for you

(And I've got the day off as it's a national holiday on my birthday )

did you know that there's a reality show called "the big 4-0"? if your wife throws a par-tay for you, you might want to consider voting her to appear on that show when SHE turns 40....mwahahaha.
