boy I rarely cry, but I just got 100% verklempt watching this thing on CNN. This man in Sri Lanka is a devout Christian who runs an orphanage. On the day the tsunami hit, he said his wife burst in and said, "The sea is coming!" He ran outside and saw a 30-foot wall of black water headed straight toward them. He acted immediately, screamed at the kids to run, threw them over the fence and leapt into a motorboat. Which is completely insane, by the way. A tsunami is coming and you.... jump in the water?
Well, he and these 34 kids crammed in the boat and started paddling frantically for deep enough water to start the motor. Which, for the first time ever, was still attached to the boat. Always before, the motor was removed each time the boat was docked, to prevent corrosion. This one time, the motor had been "acidentally" left on the boat.
Meantime, this wave is coming so fast there seems to be no hope. So this man, with a "Jesus is Lord" flag flying on his boat, stands up, holds up both his hands as says, "In the name of the Lord Jesus, I command you to stop!" Then he told his assistant to start the motor. For the first time ever, it cranked on the first try. Then the man said, "Charge the wave." Well, they pointed that boat straight at the wave that wiped out almost 160,000 lives, and drove straight into it. An hour later, they floated safely into a lagoon. They were the only people in the village who survived.
It just really made me so overjoyed to see that "Jesus is Lord" flying all over CNN on national news, and hear this man so openly give God the glory for saving them . He says he will rebuild the orphanage with God's help, and I believe him!
