No, see, I'm pretty sure those aren't actual rules at all.

I think that is a very good gauge to follow, especially for a new Christian who could easily fall into deception, not having yet learned the Voice of our Shepherd, and also very useful for them to determine FALSE doctrine. Good job!

It is definitely sad. The veil of deceit seems to be so thick. And of course, these are just representative of the population out there that have also been deceived.

2 Timothy 3:1-7
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

I wonder how many people you guys turn away from christianity when someone reads that it's not possible to be both gay and christian.

Likewise, I also wonder how many people you guys turn away from christianity when demonstrating that fruits of the spirit include bigotry, strife, idolatry, discord, and factions.

If someone is turned away from Jesus because they are gay, then they weren't believers in the first place.

It was hard for me to learn that my exploits were an abomination in the eyes of God. Now that I have repented and turned from that life, it becomes easier to stay turned away. When we give in to it, we have not repented. God can help us but he cannot (except in rare circumstances) do it for us! We must do it ourselves - and with God's help, nothing is impossible.

Do you think that lying to them and telling them that God thinks it is ok when He has said it is not, is the way to help them or show them love?
Prov 27:5-7

5 Open rebuke is better than secret love.

6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

7 The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.

Ye olde catch-22: never believers in the first place.

Catch-23: If you disagree with me, you are not really disagreeing with me, but with God.
What about the second part of my post? (I had to edit it - CF cut off my first effort with a premature post).

It's so easy to not call sin for what it is. We all want to get along with our fellows. But God holds us to a different standard than our friends do and for those of us covered by Jesus' blood we are forgiven. But forgiven doesn't mean that we should not repent - turn away from our sin. It does not mean that we can sin and sin and sin again. That says that Jesus' death was cheap grace. And there never was a sacrifice for intentional sin anyway!

No, it's because people like you try to take the keys into heaven away from God by making up rules about who can and who can't be christian.

You know, things that God should be doing, not fallible humans.

Did God also help you with the abominations of lobster, trimming your hair, and wearing mixed fabrics?

It would be best if you showed me exactly where God said that being homosexual is not ok.

Bear in mind the concept of sexual identity didn't exist back in the times of Leviticus...

When you've convinced yourself that God conveniently believes exactly everything that you believe, it's hard to understand the concept of "interpretation".

You are judging us. I thought the "Judge Not" crowd didnt believe in judging other people's behavior and actions.

The only ones that turn away are those who truly didn't want to follow Christ in the first place for these reasons.

In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. Romans 1:27

Even the great liberal preacher Tony Campolo agrees this verse condemns homosexual behavior. To recap:
  • They abandoned natural relations with women;
  • They are inflamed in lust for other men;
  • They have commited indecent acts with other men; and
  • They will receive the due penalty for their perversion.
How can that NOT be clear?

Your interpretation is to throw out the OT. OK - that's for you to decide, not me. But the Bible is clear even in the NT that homosexual acts are an abomination. It's also clear that God will turn them over to their sin if they do not repent and give it up voluntarily. At that point, I do not claim to know whether they are still saved or not - I only know that God does not change. What was an abomination is still an abomination.

FYI - I never liked lobster, you can trim your beard with scissors but not shave and I wear no clothes made of linen and wool!

Well, 2000 years of oppression is sad too.

Can one of you put all Romans 1 in proper context for me?

Not the "21st century western" context but the "time and culture in which it was written" context?

I don't know - is this part causing you a problem?

Alright. Three questions:

1. Who are the people mentioned in verses 18-23?

2. How were their actions relevant to what was going on in that city at the time?

3. How can the bible "speak" against homosexuality when the concept of sexual orientation didn't exist at the time?
