• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

You might not believe me, but I promise you this is true. I had tried zyban, patches, everything. I decided to pray and ask God. He had delivered me from worst things than this, surely if I just believed, He would honor that, and yes I was very addicted. I said something along these lines" God I am so sick of feeling this way, and I feel like I am dying, I smell like smoke when I see my patients, will you please take this away? If you will take the urge away I will never do it again". Guess what? Praise God I threw my cigarettes away, and have never wanted another one. They made me sick from the moment I asked. I think if you truely believe that He can and will, then friends you can have that victory too. I will pray for you all. May God bless you...........michael

I prayed that prayer many times. I had a dozen different people tell me a dozen different things that I had to do for God to free me. Moral of the story? God does things his way. In the end, I quit by using the nicotine lozenges, then I got off of them using welbutrin. Then, when I got off of the welbutrin, (I had been at this point many times) the urge never came back. God kept it away some how. I smoked from 12 years old until 42.

Thanks for your testimony.

I want to quit but have not yet reached the point of completely WANTING to give it up, you know what I mean?

I do have a dr's appt on 8/29 to discuss welbutrin and other options.
But I also am moved by your testimony and similar that I've heard- "take away my desire, Lord"....

I know He will help me, once I completely submit to Him with this awful habit!!

Thanks again. God bless and congrats to you all

What finally got me off of them, after 10 years of trying, patches gum and pills, was 3 things. First of all, of course prayer. Second. The new thing at the time was Nicorette "Commit" nicotine losenges. They really worked. I did not need a cigarette from the moment I started using them. After being on the for a couple of months. I used the welbutrin to get off the losenges. Then after a few months, I got off the welbutrin, expecting the urge to come back, but it didn't.

Yes i know what you mean. I just got sick and tired of being sick and tired. If you really want to quit, find some older people that have been smoking for 30 years and listen to them breathe. Listening to them cough up their lung, and still lighting that cigarette gets me to scrathing my head in amazement. I really cannot believe how addicting cigarettes are to people. I have had heart patients, after an operation, try to go outside to smoke. You find yourself wanting to **smack them with a mackrel(fish). Well I hope you get it together and quit. God bless you..............michael
