I just read a thread that was removed stating that our forum is under Catholic control.
I also have received email accusing this site of the same.
I wanted to make a public announcement to clarify this point.
This is a NON-DENOMINATIONAL site. It is neither Catholic, nor Protestant. I am the owner of this site, and I am neither Catholic nor Protestant - I am a non-denominational Christian who goes to a non-denominational (charismatic) church.
We have a staff of about 41. Out of these moderators and administrators, only 3 are Catholic. The rest are either non-denominational or Protestant.
The reason why this site appears to be "Catholic" is 2-fold:
1) We have a Catholic-oriented forum - "One Bread, One Body". Some members have requested a Protestant forum. The reason for having a Catholics area here is because in the past, Catholics are usually the group of Christians who get the most discrimination against by the other denominations in "Christian" forums sites. Having a forum geared towards Catholic discussions helps to lessen this. There is no point having a "Protestant" forum since this whole site can be deemed to be non-denominational and more or less Protestant in nature (note Charles Spurgeon's Daily Devotionals on our home page, and our daily devotional links).
I am aiming for this site to be for Christians, both Protestant and Catholic alike, and to break down barriers between both groups.
2) Another reason why we appear to be so pro-Catholic is that we have a hard-line stance against anti-Catholic sentiments on this site, even though most of the staff are not Catholic. I have tended to find that there are much more anti-Catholic posts on a Christian forums site than there are anti-Protestant posts. We do not condone the putting down of, or discrimination against, any denomination or branch of Christianity - this includes Catholicism, denominations of Protestantism and other forms of mainstream Christianity.
So we do not specifically favor Catholicism, we are just against posts that are against any branch of Christianity including Catholicism.
It is not an easy stance to have - it is sometimes hard to draw the line between a post that is genuinely asking a question about a particular denomination or branch of Christianity, and a post which is out to post disparaging things about it.
We on the moderating team of Christian Forums try our best to moderate fairly and justly. We are only humans, guided by the Holy Spirit - sometimes we do things right, sometimes we don't. I apologize for all the times when we have made mistakes. I ask that you pray for us, that God will grant us wisdom in this ministry.
Our aim is that all Christians come together as one body, and not fight amongst ourselves, which is destructive. There are problems in every denomination, and we are all entitled to our opinions - I ask that people not focus on our differences, but celebrate our similarities as Christians.
