  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is this acurate, and if not can you point me to an article of simular depth which is...

Thanks

Forgive me...:liturgy:

As far as I know, it is accurate. Especially the part where the Crusaders sacked Constantinople without the Pope's knowledge, let alone permission (which he would never have granted).

What's the purpose behind the questions dealing with the Crusades and the Inquisition?

You don't happen to hear billy goats trip-tripping over the roof of your residence at times, do you? (Just curious.)

It has been asked in the "GT" forum by "ThereselittleFlower" that before discussing a subject such as this that we come to OBOB and ask if the substance of the question is valid... I have upset her on many occasions and would frankly like to have a "good" discussion without the flack...

Therefore before proceeding to ask further questions in the GT I have come to OBOB to ask basic questions concerning articles I would like to ask questions about....

As for your question: "You don't happen to hear billy goats trip-tripping over the roof of your residence at times, do you?" I'm afraid I don't get it.... what are you asking?

Forgive me...:liturgy:

Even as a Protestant, I can say I trust the New Advent website for the accuracy of its materials. But I was surprised that they didn't include the fact that the ultimate objective of the Crusades was to recapture the Holy Land, rebuild Solomon's Temple, and expediate Christ's Second Coming...

I like what they said about Columbus, as many articles about the subject often miss him in their discussion.

Well, Orthodoxyusa, if you are just seeking links to data, the best for general information is New Advent:

http://www.newadvent.org/

You must understand, Orthodoxyusa, that Catholics are weary of anti-Catholic bigots who come to OBOB to annoy us or to taunt us with silly questions like "What about the Crusades?" or "What about the Inquistions?" or some such nonsense, as if we believed in the bigotted, vicious anti-Catholic mythology that permeates the minds of the uninformed.

The question addressed to you must be understood in that light. You had asked a question, received responses BUT HAD NOT responded to the substance of the responses. This is the sort of thing that Trolls do. So, immediately, the antennae go up and we look for a response to the question: Why are you asking about the Crusades & the Inquisition?

If you just want links, that's fine. Perhaps other people will post more of them.

OrthodoxyUSA, if this is a subject you have a genuine interest in it might be better to not use internet sites as primary sources, they simply do not have the space to do most subjects justice which leaves you much better off getting hold of a couple of decent books on the subject.
