Third day without cigarettes. I've had this good feeling before.

In 2011, I gave up cigarettes (thirty years of smoking). Five years later, I started smoking a few cigars.

2 years after that, I found myself smoking nearly a packet a day of cigarettes. One year of smoking cigarettes, again, and now I'm three days with no cigarettes.

It always surprises me how difficult and also how easy it can be. If my mind is not ready for it, I can't stop.

During this week, I decided to express my frustrations, fears and hopelessness in prayer. A vocalized prayer in my car as I drove home from work. I'd been relating to a good friend about some difficulties I had been having breathing. He said, "Well you know there is only one way to fix that. All other ways are just lies you are telling yourself." I nodded in agreement, and didn't try to make excuses. There was only one way forward.

I pray everyone who is struggling with addiction will find release. Thank God today for his blessing.

I quite for 10 years after chewing for 10, but then went thru a nasty divorce and started again. I've been thinking about quitting as I don't really want cancer. I'm getting ready to do it. I know I can since I did quit for 10 years

I wish you well in your challenge, brother. Interestingly, I was recently divorced myself.

If I was to put my finger on what has been a theme in my life lately that might have helped me, it would be 'humility'. I've been exploring that theme, at part of that was my reason for talking to God about how reliant I was on him. When we have no-one else to lean on in life, we always have God.

What refreshing testimony! Praying for you. You will need the Lord just as much when you are fully delivered from the addiction. His authority as God will never cease nor His power to save His subjects. He wills to save us to the uttermost, He is able, and there is much land to yet be possessed and many giants yet to slay.

"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." (Philippians 4:13)

On my fifth day today. I'd describe it as a little more testing than other days. It has helped that I've been able to isolate myself. Prayers have assisted when I just needed to quiet my mind.

• Wanting to quit more than I wanted anything else in the world. No matter how much it sucked or how hard it was, I was able to stay quit when that was what I wanted most.

• Knowing that using again will not make things better. It just won't

These things didn't always work. I relapsed back into the habit several times. But the last time I quit (2 or 3 years ago) this is what helped me do it. At this point, I don't even have an occasional wistful longing. It was nothing more than shameful slavery that I volunteered for.

They are all things that help me too. It does feel like slavery and that is a very demoralizing feeling. Over many years it eats away at a persons soul.

I have continually given up smoking and started again, on and off for the last 4 years. Ive been smoking now for the last 7 years. I thought if I stopped my appetite would return but it didnt. Prayers would help.
