Confusion makes life more entertaining, don't it?

We've been living down south, on the coast. We're moving up near a village south of Cambridge.

It's an absolutely beautiful area with good schools and no end to activities that we all enjoy. It's quiet and peaceful and there is no shortage of outdoor living, but London is only a short train ride away. We'll miss the coast, though, we already know that; but then, retirement isn't that far away.

Thanks Jim. Yes, we were blessed. This fire, after the initial half mile, went through a largely unpopulated area. This meant that the Firecrews didn't have to take any undue risks to save homes and property. Wednesday night, I got a chance to watch them work the fireline as it came rather close to the house. Since it was burning slowly and was just about under control, they let me watch. It was facinating. There were about twenty or so firefighters working the area above George's Rover parts storage yard. A few were cutting brush and small trees some were shoveling dirt, and others were throwing the cut stuff into the fire. Each did their part in a very well ordered way. It was like watching a slow, very well coreographed dance. Facinating.

Good news! It looks like we have a small grove of Firs that survived the fire! I was driving home and noticed them on the south slope of the hill. They're about a quarter mile past the house. I pulled over and looked at them, thinking they must be on the neighbor's property. Well, when I got home it was time to go for a wee little walkie with the dogs. We got up there and sure enough, the trees were on the Hudson property! Nice big ones too! There's only about fifteen or twenty of them and I don't know if the fire might have damaged some of them fatally. But at least a few should survive.

there was a trail cut into the steep bank of the road, so I put Nana on stay and went up it with the other dogs. Nana isn't up to mountain climbing at her age. She gladly waited at the bottom whilst we went 'splorin'. The understory trees are completely nuked though not all of the forrest floor is consumed (a good sign). However, the larger trees all look good. There's even some really huge White Oaks. 'Course, when we got to the top of the ridge, it was a moon-scape. All in greyscale. I just wanted to run back down the slope and hug each of those survivors. But I restrained myself (LOL)

There's going to be a lot of trees on the south slope of our hill that were girdled or so badly injured that they'll not make it. However, this little fir grove looks pretty darn good.

Great news, Stude! Isn't it amazing how determined some living things can be amidst the most severe devastation? God made a truly amazing planet.


Here, we have had to deal with losing the maple flooring in the living room. My husband was pretty upset about it, because of his mother's attachment to it, BUT once it started coming up, we soon discovered that had it not been removed, the room would have eventually been overtaken by mold that was happily growing underneath a fair bit of it. Thank God it was pulled up!

Our little girl is on her way home and we pick her up first thing tomorrow in London. She had a nice visit in Texas, but she's as ready to come back as we are to see her.
After realizing the temperature differences are so extreme between here and there, I doubt she'll be wanting to spend too many more summers that far south. I guess a lot of you in the US are dealing with some pretty rough heat and dry conditions and as much as I feel for you, I sure don't miss that. Having to keep a cardigan handy in August is not such a bad thing.

It was really cool here too...and rainy! After church an old friend from high school drove in with her bike and she, her boyfriend and I rode all over town visiting our old haunts. We got soaked but had a great time! Now it's warm out and sunny. Go figure!

I was visiting my Grandparents in Piscataway. I grew up in Piscataway and South Bound Brook, freshman year was Bound Brook HS. So we drove past a couple of times while taking my fiancee on the grand tour.

Plus, your church was on the way to Mediterranean bakery and the super shoprite

Okay ladies, just rub it in. It didn't get below eighty here in Lewiston till midnight last night. I can't sleep worth beans unless the temps are under seventy-five. Thankfully, September is just around the corner. I'm rather hoping that we don't have an Indian Summer this year.

Yes, Porter, thank our gracious Lord you and yours pulled that flooring up. That mould would have likely made your family sick. There are laminate flooring available now that are fungal-resistant. Now, when you replace the original, make sure you put a proper underlayment in there. In the meantime make sure the floor is soaked in fungicide. If you have a basement, and can see the sub-floor there, spray both sides of that floor. Don't give the little bugger's spores anywhere to hide. In fact, if the basement was improved and had a ceiling, I'd still pull it down and spray, as it's probably hiding more mould. But that's just me.
