• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

link to baby games

Baby games

link to workout ideas, please remember I have no idea what you look like, I am only offering it for the potential entertainment.

Workout

some generic ideas,

crayons (closely supervised, my rule of thumb is remove when they chew three times. warn of course)

tearing or ripping old ads or magazines, but no newsprint! Toss them crumpled into a laundry basket for added fun

Water play in or out of the house/tub. you can paint with it if the ground is dry. color it and you can paint with it in the tub.

puzzles Oh I doubt he can builda simple wodden puzzle yet, but it can't hurt to let him try for a minute or three. The shape o ball from Tupperware used to keep mine interested at that age for a time. I would name the shape and find the hole and nudge it in at first.

Duplos While I can't recall when my two started connecting them I do recall they were entertained for quite some time with trying and with me building something simple.

For walkers:
ring around the mommy like ring around the rosey but mom doesn't hav to figure out how to walk ina circle with such a short kid! just sit and be the err flower? Do fall with your kid of course.

We just played the lovely game of poke each other's belly buttons.... he made that one up.... and cuddled on the couch while doing that.... then we sang some christmas songs. Hehe. He is like a couch potatoe right now. Since he learned to crawl onto the couch he wants to sit up there all day. Play with toys up there. Play with mommy up there. Its kinda funny :p

Water play might be a good one for today, the only trouble is that he is like.... suicidal... what I mean is that he always tries to do the most dangerous thing possible. Now when I take him in the back yard he tries to leap off the edge of the deck. I have to watch him like a hawk! Its hot here though. I should maybe get the pool out again, he would like it.

Funny enough we don't own any puzzles, hes pretty sick of the paper game because he used to love it..... and the Mega Legos we have and love but I build and he destroys ;)

Oh and he won't stop eating the crayons so we're taking a month off until he is more ready...

Good ideas!

I didn't specify I ALWAYS watch him like a hawk in the backyard, but its worse now because he is dying to explore, and so I let him, and I have to try to hold his hand which he tries to squirm out of while trying to do scary things like playing near rusty wire or tries to walk off the edge of the deckn while I am trying to hold his arms. He doesn't want me to hold onto him but he is CRAZY!

blow bubbles...of course, mommy has to do all the blowing but I bet he'd find it to be loads of fun!

Does he like baths? Stick him in the tub & load it up with bubbles & let him play...

Make a tent with a blanket & some chairs & have a picnic...

Make an obstacle course with your couch cushions, let him climb all over them...tire him out for his nap later!! ;)

I bought my son a tent like thing it came with those balls. He loves to go in and squirm around and nock balls out. He also has a little piano that he loves to get out every morning. He just about fell apart yesturday when he found out it wouldn't work anymore (the batteries were dead).

No puzzles! that is the end of the world!!!! (kidding) Actually most people don't think of puzzles for a kid under 2 or 3, but I love this one we have. link to it I think. Both kids could build it pretty early and move on to bigger ones.

I think for quite some time the you build he destroys is the fun of it :). Gets better when DS builds a tower of stacking cups and DD knocks it over, DS at 3 doesn't quite understand that is the point for her :). Learning about gravity and all that.

I don't have a lot of money, but some mom and baby classes really were worth the cost for me. We did Gymboree, then when we needed a break from that, we did little mommy and me gymnastics classes.

Parks daily are good too, and that's free, and stroller walks.

That's a great idea...we did MyGym for a looong time, like over a year! It was like $160 for 8 weeks or something like that, but Andie loved it and it was really fun!

Oh! Also our library has storytime & the classes are based on ages...maybe check into that as well...

We'll probably get David puzzles for Christmas..... we can't take any mother/baby classes because we have NO money, we are in fact staying home more and more often because we can't even afford to pay for the gas (we live 30 minutes from a town, one trip costs 6-8 dollars)..... so classes are out. Sigh. Okay now I am having a self pity moment here, my SIL just wrote me an email talking about this cool mommy-baby group and that got me pretty down.

I can totally emphathise with the money blues! We don't do ANY classes or travel due to the same reasons :(.

But it will get better, I hope.

Saving Advice

this is a site I use to help keep me motivated if you want it.

BTW www.starfall.com has a k-5 portion that has letters and stuff, it is really cute and you can focus on the stuff (like asutronots or hats or aligators) instead of the letters and he will prolly get a kick out of it.
