You know, I used to use my desktop computer all the time to get on here...

...but now they bought. Me. A. Tablet.

It is fascinating to me how this thin slice of technology can get on the Internet like my computer can.

We are entering a different age you guys.

Soon computers will be obsolete and will be replaced by tablets and cell phones that can get online!

I was a child when computers began to come into the home, so you may say that I grew up at the beginning on the computer age.

Now I am seeing that tablets are replacing computers...

...Technology is progressing too fast for me to follow. :dead:

The computer age only lasted like, 20 years? And I was alive through all of those years. I was 9 when we got our first home computer about, in 1995 or somewhere around there. Spent many happy days playing games on that thing. Childhood is so wonderful...

Mostly and only for the casual web-surfers who are often mobile or On-The-Go(OTG).

For serious work and businesses, people will always still need powerful desktops or workstations and servers, eg Cloud businesses, video-editing and game development.

At home, I still prefer to surf the Internet on my large-screen desktop, instead of my small-screen phablet.

Mobile phablets, by design, have to be limited to be very thin, lightweight, fanless, small-screened, power-sipping, battery-powered and cellular or Wifi connected. Immobile desktops have no such limitations.

Curious what brand of tablet did you get? Apple? Android? Microsoft?

I have an old Samsung Android tablet.

Bit daring to use term always when talking about technology.

There will probably be some form of implanted computer tech that interact with your brain without need of keyboard sooner than we might imagine.

I wouldn't want a computer implanted in my brain, way too gruesome. Plus there is a major chance for abuse, by hackers for instance. Then if a new model comes out, you would have to visit your surgeon again for an upgrade.

Do believe the technology for such devices will be developed, I don't believe the average person would want such an intrusive surgical implant.

Welcome to platform lockdown. You can no longer customize the way you want to and soon not be able to install software you want to.

Example: Adblocking on Android without rooting or customizing a hosts file on Android without rooting.

Times change, I doubt many people would have been enthusiastic 60 years ago about a device size of your palm that you carry around everywhere , that allows your wife to call you everywhere, that you check how it is doing repeatedly just in case your friend somewhere is doing something, that you can spend your time playing funny little games or watching cat videos.

Back then they might have felt they had more pressing things to do with their time.
